    Marangu Route

Day 06 - Kilimanjaro National Park

Full day: Travel to Marangu Gate, the entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park to begin your first days trek. We will spend around an hour completing registration and payment fees before entering the National Park. The climb begins with a trek through the rain forest until you reach the first hut at Mandara.

Evening: Meal and overnight at Mandara Hut. (Time 5 hours 9000 ft 2,725m) Day 07 - Horombo Hut

Full day: The ascent this morning moves through alpine meadows. Due to the

gradual change of altitude the overall pace slows but this allows us to enjoy the flora and the view of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Arrive at Horombo Hut 12km from Mandara.

Evening: Meal and overnight at the hut. (Time 5 hours 12335 ft 3,780m) Day 08 - Horombo Hut

Full day: We will spend the day in the vicinity of Horombo Hut in order to

acclimatize to the altitude. This will be beneficial when we go for the Peak in two days time. During the day we will take a short local trek in the vicinity of Horombo Hut.

Evening: Overnight for the second night at Horombo Hut.

Day 09 - Kibo Hut Full day: We leave the meadows and tree line behind and ascend through the

arid, desert like environment towards Kibo Peak. The landscape is very stony on the climb towards Kibo Hut.

Evening: Meal and overnight at Kibo Hut. (Time 5-6 hours 15520ft 4,730m). Early bed in order to be ready for the push to the Peak tomorrow!

Day 10 - Gilmans Point & Uhuru Peak

Full day: We need to be ready by 1:00 a.m. because our target is to see the

sun rise over Africa so we need to start the final ascent during the hours of darkness. This is the hardest part of the climb, the trek up to Gilmans Point at 5681m. It is steeper than anything previously and it is very tiring and cold especially with the effects of altitude. There is a good chance that the final ascent will involve walking on snow.

Once Gilmans Point is reached it is a further one hour walk along the rim of Kilimanjaro Crater to the highest point in Africa - UHURU PEAK at 5895m above mean sea level. We will enjoy this unique moment on the top of Africa, take photographs of the group on Uhuru Peak and view the sun rise over Africa and the fabulous early morning views over

guarantee a successful summit attempt for everyone. Altitude will affect us all in different ways and for some it may just be too much resulting in the need to remain at base camp. However, we will try our best to ensure you are prepared to attempt the summit

Day 11 - Descent to Marambu Gate Full day: Continue the descent to Marangu Gate. Marangu, where we started

the trek 6 days earlier is the end of the Kilimanjaro adventure. Evening: Transfer to Arusha. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
