J. DAVIS Portfolio : :
A Native Houstonian, James Davis received his B.F.A. degree
with a concentration in Graphic Communications from Texas
State University, formerly known as Southwest Texas State Uni-
versity. James started his professional career in the advertising
department at the Austin American Statesman Newspaper, while
working as an intern at Texas Monthly Magazine in the produc-
tion department in Austin, Texas where he gained his foundation
in the world of print and advertising media. After a turn in his
professional career led him to teaching, James has been an educa-
tor for the past nineteen years in the public school system where
he is presently teaching Visual Arts in the Katy Independent
School District. James enjoys teaching fine arts to the young
minds of tomorrow.
James shows his devotion to art in a variety of media that he en-
compasses through his paintings, drawings, ceramics, and sculp-
tural pieces. At this present time, he is focused on mixed media
abstract paintings where he creates imagery by experimenting
with textures, multiple layers, and a variety of paint media such
as; acrylic paint, oil paint sticks, inks and textural gel medium.
His art work ranges from abstract, realism, to geometric designs.
James has been creating work geared toward the use and purchase
of interior decorators/designers in the residential and commercial
market.
