Storymes Storymes are six week sessions that run Monday, January 20 th through Thursday, February 27 th Toddler Time Ages: 18-36 months Limit: 15 per session plus caregiver Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. or Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Sessions last 30 minutes This interacve storyme will feature short stories, finger plays, acon rhymes and songs! Toddlers will develop social interacon with others and help encourage language skills. Caregiver is strongly encouraged to parci- pate with child. Preschool Story Time Ages: 3-5 (not in kindergarten); children must aend alone Limit: 20 per session Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. or Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Sessions last 40 minutes Have fun with engaging books, finger plays, acon rhymes and songs as child builds their early literacy skills in preparaon for kindergarten. Aſter School Club Grades: K-2 Limit: 20 per session Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. Session lasts 45 minutes Children in grades K-2 are invited to join an aſter school club where they will read some great stories, parcipate in projects, craſts, and/or games. Tween Scheme Grades: 3-5 Limit: 20 per session Mondays at 4:00 p.m. Sessions last 45 minutes Children in grades 3-5 are invited to join this excing, program where each week is something different, offering a variety of individual and group acvi- es. Tweens will make craſts, read stories, play games, and even do some science experiments. Find a snowflake hidden somewhere in the children’s department of the library everyday throughout the month of Janu- ary. Parcipaon is for children of all ages. Teen Programs (Grades 7-12) Teen Craſt Night Monday, January 13 th at 7:00 p.m. Make your very own bole cap necklace! Please bring photos to use for your necklace. Storytimes Storytimes are six week sessions that run Monday,

January 20th through Thursday, February 27th

STEAM Programs Come and join one of our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) programs at the library. This month’s theme

will be colors. (Paint may be used—Please dress accordingly)

Science Sprouts Thursday, January 16th at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 3-5 Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes

STEAM Squad Monday, January 13th at 4:00 p.m. Grades: K-2 Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes

Mad Scientists: Technicolor Shadows – A Lesson in Light and Color Wednesday, January 15th at 4:00 p.m. Grades: 3-5 Limit: 15 Length: 1 hour

Registration is required for all programs unless otherwise noted. We do not take registration over the phone A Prairie Trails Library Card is required at time of signup and must be presented at time of program. An adult can sign up to three children on one adult library card.

Family Storytime and Treasure Hunt Saturday, January 18th, at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 3-5 Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes A wonderful opportunity for family members and children to

come together and have some fun. Our time together will in-

clude pirate stories, songs, craft, and a treasure hunt.

Art Exploration: A Trip to “Uncle Andy’s” Saturday, January 25th at 1:00 p.m. Limit: 20 Length: 1 hour Grades: K-3 We’re getting the New Year off to a rollicking, artsy start! Come

learn about the fabulous work of Andy Warhol. We’ll read an

artist-inspired story and make some great “Pop Art.”

Snowflake Workshop Tuesday, January 28th, at 6:30 p.m. Grades: 3-6 Limit: 20 Length: 1 hour Join the fun as we make snowflake prints, talk about the right weather conditions for snow, and finally make a snow globe. Supplies will be provided. See you soon!

Winnie-the-Pooh Storytime Friday, January 10th at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 18-36 months; Caregiver must be pre-sent Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes Come celebrate the January birthday of the author of the Win-nie-the-Pooh books, A. A. Milne, by sharing stories about our favorite bear.

Winter Wonderland Saturday, January 11th at 11:00 a.m. Grades: 4-6 Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes You’ve been invited to create a winter wonderland! Make your own winter wreath, magnets, snowflakes and scarf to take home. Come and unwind at the library with some hot chocolate and crafts!

LEGO Club Saturday, January 11th at 1:00 p.m. Ages: 5-12 Limit: 30 Length: 45 minutes Imagine, create, BUILD! Join us for LEGO fun. We provide the

Legos, and you provide the imagination. All materials must

stay at the library, so parents bring a camera to capture your

child’s creations.

National Hug Day

Tuesday, January 14 at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 18-36 months; Caregiver must be present Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes The January celebration of National Hug Day encourages us to givea comforting cuddle to those we care about. Come get cozy with stories & songs about giving and receiving hugs!

Pencils and Pens and Tape, Oh My….

While the library will not ‘lend’ these to patrons we do sell them at minimal

expense to the buyer. The supplies we offer are as follows:

Flash-drives $6.00 each Headphones $1.00 each

Staplers $1.00 each Tape 25 cents each

Pens 10 cents each Pencils 5 cents each

Erasers 2 for 5 cents Paper clips 2 for 1 cent

Please note we will not provide (to adult or child) scissors, white out, notebook

paper nor any other office supply not listed here.

The Prairie Trails Public Library District will be working in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service in providing the most requested Tax forms for the convenience of our patrons.

After Monday, January 6, 2014, the forms will be available in the foyer of the library.

If you do not see the form you need – whether federal or state – ask the adult reference librarians to assist you.

Trustee Vacancy – Names Requested

Due to the passing of Trustee Kenneth J. Twadell, the library’s Board of Trustees is required to fill the vacant position. Therefore, residents of the Prairie Trails Public Library District are invited to submit their name, legal address and a state-ment as to why they would like to serve as a library Trustee. Any additional information such as a resume, letters of recom-mendation, etc. may be added to your submission.

The library is saddened to announce that Trustee Kenneth J. Twadell passed away on Thursday,

December 5, 2013. We set our flag at half staff in honor of his memory and service to our library

and community.

Mr. Twadell began his term(s) as a library Trustee in 1995. Over a decade of his service was as the

library Board’s Treasurer. He was instrumental in the passage of the referendum that helped sup-

port the costs involved with the library’s building addition of 2001. Mr. Twadell served on the

Board’s building committee during the last three renovations of the library. Mr. Twadell’s dedica-

tion, commitment, breath of knowledge, friendship and sense of humor will be greatly missed by his

fellow Trustees and library staff.
