Basic information on

the Ochanomizu University

Summer Program

This program is to provide intensive courses in summer for Ochanomizu University

/ Graduate School students and overseas / Japanese partner universities students.

All classes are multi-cultural, aiming for students’ career developments and

promotion of international communication and leadership. The provided courses

are: 1) learning Japanese language, and 2) studying Japanese culture and society

in English.

Credits are given for the fulfillment of the program.

Application

Those who are eligible to attend the program are: 1) Ochanomizu University /

Graduate School students (including special registered students), 2) students

(having proper studentship at the time of the program) of overseas and Japanese

partner universities.

• There may be screening of applicants on the Ochanomizu University side.

• Both men and women can participate.

Accommodation

Eligibility

• Tuition fee: Free

• Travelling costs to Tokyo, accommodation fee, and living costs (daily meal,

transportation from the accommodation to Ochanomizu University, etc.) must be

paid by students.

• Depending on circumstances, scholarship may be awarded to selected students.

All applications must be made through the university, NOT by individual students.

The person in charge at each partner university is required to collect application

documents as shown below from all applicants and send it to the Summer

Program office ([email protected]) by EMAIL (NOT by post).

Due date: 22 April 2017 (Sat.)• Application Form 1: Entry Sheet

• Application Form 2: Motivation Paper

• PDF copy of a passport (ID page)

• Photo for an ID card (JPEG file only)

• [For the Course 1 applicants only] Proof of the level of Japanese language

Guest houses in Tokyo (booked by the Summer Program office; 5-60,000 JPY for

2 weeks, 6-70,000 JPY for 3 weeks) or students’ own choices.

• Students can apply for Ochanomizu University’s dormitory rooms though the

number is limited.

Japanese Language Course

• 参加資格: 初心者および日本語能力試験N5~N2レベル Beginners of

Students who are beginners of Japanese language and ones of JLPS N5-N2

levels (or the equivalent) are eligible to attend the course.

Beginners must be able to communicate in English.

• 定員: 30名Up to 30 students are accepted for the course

【総合日本語クラス Comprehensive Japanese Language Class】3つのレベルのクラス(①初心者、②初中級、③中上級)に分かれて日本語を学びます。Divided in 3 classes based on the Japanese Language levels (①Beginners, ②JLPS N5-N4, ③JLPS N3-N2), learn Japanese language.

【プロジェクトワーク Project Work】協定校学生とお茶の水女子大学学部学生による混成グループで、一つのテーマを決めて、フィールドワーク、レポート作成、プレゼンテーションを行います。(使用言語: 初心者・初級者‐英語 初級~中上級者‐日本語)Collaborative research work by multi-cultural groups, field works for the research,

writing the report, and the presentation in Japanese.

Course 2

Culture and Society Course

(taught in English)15 (Sat.) – 28 (Sat.) July 2017 [2 weeks]

• Up to 60 students are accepted for this course.

• For sub-course 1 and 2 attendants, all lectures are basically on the

introductory level, so previous experiences of the subject is not required.

• For sub-course 3 attendants, the university-level knowledge of natural

sciences is required.

Course contents

【Lectures】 Choose 1 sub-course from below

Sub-course 1: Gender from Interdisciplinary Perspectives

Sub-course 2: Digging in Japanese Food Culture: What is ‘authenticity’ of

traditional food?

Sub-course 3: Evolution in Natural Science: From Being to Becoming

• Each course has 90 minutes x 12 classes, a field study and a workshop.

• Each course is taught by several lecturers in an omnibus style and from

interdisciplinary perspectives.

• More than 75 % attendance and submission of a final report are required for

getting credits.

【Project Works】Collaborative research work by multi-cultural groups, field works for the research,

writing the report, and the presentation in English.

• You can optionally join our various cultural and exchange events at

off-lecture times (afternoons, weekends) for basically free of charge!(You may need to pay for transportations and entrance fees for off-campus events)

• Joining those evens, you can learn more about Japanese culture with

fun, and exchange with students of other courses, Ochanomizu

University students of not participating the Summer Program, and High

School and Junior High School students!!
