checked for the presence of any radioactive

substance.

Duties and Taxes:

Charges payable upon entry for private

permanent or commercial use include

approximately 25 percent of the vehicle's

value as an import tax, along with value-

added tax (VAT) of approximately 20 percent

of the value of the vehicle. In addition, there

may be other fees applicable to used

vehicles imported for permanent use.

However, foreign diplomatic employees

importing vehicles for private permanent or

commercial use are allowed for tax-free

importation.

importer of Japan used cars. The low

mileage, excellent quality, and reasonable

prices makes Japanese used vehicles

popular across the country. According to the

data from the Ministry of Transport, used

vehicles imported in the year 1990 are still

on roads. The average age of New Zealand's

light fleet is 13.2 years.

In 2012, around 173,000 motor

vehicles were imported in

New Zealand. Out of which,

forty two per cent were used

and were mainly from Japan.

Restrictions:

The vehicle imported should not be more

than 8 years o ld f rom the date of

manufacturing while it is imported in New

Zealand. Vehicles with ancient history,

tampered odometer, and with rusty body or

chassis are prohibited. All used vehicles

imported are subjected to quarantine

inspection on arrival in the country.

Right-hand drive vehicles:

New Zealand permits right-hand drive

vehicles only, but left-hand drive vehicles are

also permitted in special cases.

Duties and taxes:

If the used vehicle imported does not qualify

for concession, then they are subjected to

the Goods and Services tax (GST) of 15%.

Restrictions:

The Japanese used vehicle imported in Kenya must be

less than 8 years of age. The difference between the

registration date and the manufacturing date should

not be more than a year. Used vehicle imported

should be JEVIC certified which checks for vehicle

safety and road worthiness.

Duties and Taxes:

1. Import Duty: 25% of the CIF value of the vehicle.

2. Excise Duty: 20% of the (CIF value + Import Duty).

3. VAT: 16% of the (CIF value + Import Duty + Excise

Duty).

4. Import Declaration Fee (IDF) of 2.25% of the CIF is

also charged subject to a minimum of KSH. 5,000

payable in advance on application.

Zambia, officially Republic of Zambia is

a landlocked country located in

Southern Africa, to the east of

Angola. Majority of the vehicles in

Zambia have been imported f r o m

Japan and most of

them are used

cars. Although a

small portion of

the automobile

m a r k e t i s

owned by used

v e h i c l e s

imported from

countries such as

U.S.A., U.K.,

S i n g a p o r e , a n d

United Arab Emirates.

When compared with the volume of used

vehicle making their way to the country, it is

quite evident that the economy of Zambia is

flourishing. Zambia has seen an increase in

companies trading in used cars, mainly

Japanese used.

vehicles to willing buyers in Zambia, where

taxes on new vehicles make the price of new

cars too expensive for many people. On an

In the recent years, Mozambique has

witnessed a tremendous increase in the

number of cars on the roads. The local

market of Mozambique is stable, thus

sales of used vehicle are quite good in

the country. The country has all

ingredients for development and

growth of strong automobile

m a r ke t . E v e n t h o u g h , t h e

M o z a m b i q u e a u t o m o b i l e

industry is still weak, the market is

growing, supported by increasing

incomes, improving urban

infrastructure.

imported with the exception to special

vehicles like ambulances etc.

Since 1971 Bangladesh Independent

Movement, Bangladesh has close ties

with Japan, as the later helped the

former one in getting independence. Since

then, there are good trade relations between

both countries. Japanese used cars are

popular in the country as they are

reliable, high on quality and safe

to drive. The reduction in the

increment of sales of second-

hand vehicles. Japan controls 80

percent of the used car market in

Bangladesh. Both new and used

cars from Toyota, Honda, Nissan

Bangladesh's roads. Toyota

accounts for 75 percent of the

market.

c o u n t r y i s g r o w i n g

progressively at around 6%

developing economy. Also there are fast

growing middle class people in the country.

The sales of used cars are increasing in the

more middle class people are buying such

emphasized in his speech that the domestic ties

between Japan and Sri Lanka date back more than 60

years. He also stated how important it is to make these

friendly ties deeper and closer in the future.

Furthermore, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister

and Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of External

Affairs also delivered their Independence Day

statement to the large gathering.

officials on 4th February.

The ceremony took place in a large event hall in the

The program started with the hoisting of the national

the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, some religious
