Articles of Confederation
Erica Anna
Jazmine
InformationThey were adopted by the Continental Congress on November 15, 1777. They served as the United States' first constitution, and was in force from March 1, 1781, until 1789 when the present day Constitution went into effect.
They established “a firm league of friendship” with a weak government where each state retained its sovereignty, freedom. It created a unicameral congress in which each state had one vote. They didn’t establish executive or judicial branches, instead, congressional committees handled these functions.
The failures of the government created by the Articles of Confederation allowed the delegates at the Constitutional Convention to create a central government strong enough to reign in and withstand internal threats, and represent unified national interests to the world.
