BiographiesCombining equal parts lyricism and devotion to rhythm, NikolaTomić is an engaging and dynamic New York City-based trumpetperformer whose versatility and enjoyment of soloist and backgroundroles alike have taken him to stages around the United States and toItaly, Mexico, Ireland, and Costa Rica. In New York, he has performedin venues including Swing 46, the Drawing Room, the Cutting Room,Silvana, St. Peter's Church, and the Miller Theatre at ColumbiaUniversity. Nikola is thrilled to be teaching in the Performance andJazz Studies departments at the Ithaca College School of Music thissemester.
Nikola holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and IthacaCollege. His teachers have included Frank Gabriel Campos, ClayJenkins, Bill Dobbins, Harold Danko, and Steve Brown.
Pianist Nick Weiser is steeped in both the jazz and classical idiomsand has performed at events as far reaching as the Umbria JazzFestival in Perugia, Italy, and Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival.During his formative years in western Kansas, Weiser studied pianowith the late jazz pianist, composer, and arranger Frank Mantoothbefore matriculating to the University of Kansas. There, he developedhis classical background while maintaining an active involvement inthe jazz and musical theater programs, winning the prestigious DickWright Jazz Award in 2006 and performing with such greats as PeterErskine, Ingrid Jensen, Rich Perry, John Abercrombie, and Gary Foster,to name a few.
He received his Bachelor of Music degree with highest distinction in2008 before attending the Eastman School of Music in Rochester,New York, where he earned both his MM and DMA in Jazz &Contemporary Media. At Eastman, he studied with artists HaroldDanko and Bill Dobbins, and was a member of the DownbeatAward-winning Eastman New Jazz Ensemble, whose performance withrenowned trombonist, composer, and arranger Bob Brookmeyergarnered international acclaim. Actively sharing his passion for musicwith others, Weiser is on the faculty at Ithaca College and CornellUniversity and has given lectures and master classes at universitiesand institutions nationwide. He continues to teach privately whilemaintaining an extensive jazz and classical performance schedulethroughout the Northeast.
