FRISBY RESIDENCE

Richard and Lynne Frisby are a young couple in their first home together. They like the bones of their home as it is a craftsman and look forward to putting their design choices into it. Richard and Lynne are very fond of their dogs and would like all their bed considered as a part of the overall design. In addition, they prefer green design over standard and are willing to go the extra mile to make sure many products are natural, sustainable or recycled. Finally, they both love to have friends and family over for social gatherings. Since this family is eco-conscious, my plan is to design using four natural elements, earth, wind, fire and water. The great room and kitchen will reflect the culmination of all elements combined.

FRISBY RESIDENCE- FIRE

For the formal living room, a custom fireplace was created with a traditional craftsman feel to it. Art glass is used along with black and whites of their creation to bring in a modern craft to the space while sticking with my fire theme. Wool carpet, Sensuede and cotton blends were used to maintain the eco-friendly design.

MASTER BEDROOM-EARTH

Elmwood is continued in the master bedroom. The human bed as well as the dog bed are custom made items. The sofa is an eco-friendly product made by EKLA that is covered with Sensuede. Lots of browns were used as in the wood and the fabric combinations but blues were added to give the space some calm.

PAINT COLOR

To give the bathroom an organic feel, a large wall made of glass was used as a part of the shower surround with teak for the tub and sink. The toilet is a Toto with low water use and a heated seat. To go with the water theme, the chandelier, sconces and shower head were chosen because their designs were reminiscent of water or water drops.

FRISBY RESIDENCE- ALL NATURE

The kitchen has custom glass knobs and hand blown lighting. The limestone sink was chosen because it was the same tone as the aluminum shaving found in the Alkemi resin counterop. For the back splash, multi-colored glass with a metallic sheen on the back of them were added for color. The cabinets were styled after the craftsman design.

SWAROVSKI

Having noticed that the current Swarovski stores are a bit on the masculine side, I decided to give this famous crystal retailer a fresh new look and feel. These boutiques are designed to make the customer feel special by adding VIP customer service.

SWAROVSKI

The look that has been created is a combination of Baroque and Rococo. Swarovski chandeliers were be utilized as well as black busts that some of the finer pieces will hung on. Most of the busts are to be in locked window cases as an attraction.

Currently Swarovski uses navy blue boxes and bags for their merchandise. A conscious choice was made to make it a little classier and a bit more modern. In addition to creating the bags and boxes, the emblem was modified while still using the swan but in a different way. The center of the new emblem has four original swans mirrored twice. Then the Baroque elements were added later.

These are the four sketches created with the help of a classmate, Juan Moriera. I assisted in the visual design and helped render the scenes.

This is a project I worked on in 2008. The plans were drawn up by Design Lines and modified by me. The location is in Edmonds with a view directly over a pond with the Puget Sound beyond it. The lighting plan is shown as well.

ANDERSON RESIDENCE

Materials chosen for the space. Three green fabrics with different textures, the center is the inspirational fabric for the home. To the right, more blue was added in different weights and textures for variety. Below there’s brown and cream leather for furnishings and marmoleum for the laundry/pantry. Granite and glass were chosen for the kitchen, cork for the exercise room and Elmwood reclaimed wood throughout the home.

These are different views using Sketchup. The lower level is the rec room and the patio while the mail level is where the kitchen, dining room and living room are.

This home theater is inspired by old Hollywood. Red is the main color because it’s reminiscent of the red carpet. Using the black and white art brings in the stars and takes away from the starkness of the red.

HARBOR HOUSE

This project should be flexible without seeming unstable. The space needs to be cozy to give the clients a feeling of hominess. The space should have nooks and crannies so a client can curl up with a book without feeling like the goings on around them are disruptive. Safety is a main concern so making sure there is an area next to the stairs for supervision to hang out is very important. Also, clear visibility will help the young clients to not feel threatened by the older clients as bullying will not be tolerated. My concept statement is based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. On every level an individual needs certain things before they can reach their best potential.

Bright and shiny materials were used along with Pop Art in order to give the space a whimsical yet modern feel.

These are the materials used for the professional space next to the café. They are modern, fun yet serious enough for staff to work in.

HARBOR HOUSE- BOYS SPACE

These are four scenes of the boys living space. There’s the living room that has seating for seven with an area of six computers next to it. A few nooks were put in for the boys’ creativity. There’s a library with four large beanbags across the hall. Next to it is the art nook for further personal exploration.

The bedrooms were created with the ability to expand. Typically there will only be one boy per room. Fun lighting and fabrics make the space youthful. The fabrics I chose were from Crypton for long use.

LUSK RESIDENCE

The challenge for this project was to create a 900 sq/ft home with all the amenities of a larger home. A curved wall was used to enhance the space by doubling as an art niche.

The main idea for this space was to make it seem larger than it is. With that in mind, skylights, upper windows and tall windows were used to allow the outside to come in and add natural light. To the right is a sketch of the office nook.

Color was embraced in the residence in order to add interest. By having tall ceilings, the red doesn’t overwhelm the space. It still has a roomy feel.

Because very little furnishings were needed for the space, quality pieces were chosen. Art glass is also a large part of the design with the curved wall. Once again, every nook is meant to be interesting and a distraction from the size of the residence.

These are the two projects our 3D AutoCAD class had. The living room was a step by step process with our instructor. The kitchen was a project done on our own.

RENDERINGS

For one of my early classes, the class was required to render a space by an inspiring designer. This space was created by Clodagh and my rendering was painted with acrylics.

This object of this project was to redesign and render a space. A faux finish was chosen for the walls. A higher backboard for the bed with a two tone silk comforter and silk pillows complete the new look.

FURNITURE DESIGN

To the left is a “Chable” or a chair that turns into a table. It’s a very simple design that has the potential to expand by adding shelving to the table.

To the right is a wall divider which turns into bunk cots. If it were created to size it would have to be made with steel for an industrial look.

MODEL DESIGN

To the immediate left is a model that was designed to have an office space, a bed, a closet and a work table. The work table folds up against the Murphy bed when the bed is used. To the right is another model that was supposed to prepare us for working in a small space.

THE STUDIO-TROIANI

PROVIDENCE O’CHRISTMAS TREE COMMUNITY TREE AT TROIANI’S IN SEATTLE BY IADT

Located in Downtown Seattle, the purpose of the Community Tree Program is to promote O’ Christmas Trees and its fundraising activities, create a memorable holiday display in the lobbies of downtown business and to promote established up & coming designers. Tour of Trees viewers are shoppers, tourists, downtown business clientele and patrons of businesses where trees are located.

I was the lead IADT designer for the TroianiTree. Their only request was they didn’t want a themed Christmas tree.

THE STUDIO-CHILD

Located in on Mercer Island, CHILD is a school for children with learning disabilities. Our mission was to create a space that is versatile for children with different learning preferences. We chose heavy duty pieces made of EVA foam. Often times children with Autism are inspired by certain colors. This is why we used with color-changing light bulbs. The flooring was covered with a mat so if a child fell, they wouldn't hurt themselves. This was a great project with much to learn about learning disabilities.
