Jesus Didnt TAP!!Ready:Then Pilate took Jesus and had Him flogged. The soldiers also twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and threw a

purple robe around Him. And they repeatedly came up to Him and said, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and were slapping His face. John

    19:1-3

Set:I must admit that I have fallen in love with mixed martial arts. I wrestled some in high school, but football was always

my sport. Mixed martial arts is a melting pot of different disciplinesfrom wrestling and boxing, to Jui Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do.

The phrase to tap out is familiar in the sport of mixed martial arts as a term meaning, to give up or I quit. If an MMA fighter

were to capture his/her opponent in a hold that would cause excruciating pain, the opponent would slap the ground (tap out) and

concede victory. For someone to tap out, they are usually put in a lot of pain and quitting would be easier than breaking a bone

    or any other damage.

Jesus was put in this position during his final days on Earth. In John 19, we find a convicted Jesus being flogged and

mocked by his Roman captors. Jesus must now carry the full weight of the cross through the streets to Golgotha, where he is to

    be crucified.

As the human form of God, our Father, the pain he felt must have been intense. The movie, The Passion of the Christ

displayed these scenes in quite a bit of detail. This torture would be enough for any mere mortal to quit and give up.

But not Jesus! He is no mere mortal. He is the Immortal [One], the Son of God, and the Mighty God. By tapping out, Jesus

would not have fulfilled the plan set up by the Almighty God, himself. With Jesus death, the prophecy was complete and the

statement made in John 3:16 is able to come to life. For God so loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so

that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Jesus endured the torture from the Romans and gave the

ultimate sacrifice so that we may have everlasting life.

Go:Lord God, thank you for not quitting on us. You endured all of the pain and suffering so that we may have everlasting

life. We are so grateful for that sacrifice and hope to glorify your name in all of our actions, each and every day. In Your Sons

    Holy Name! Amen!

Workout:Describe a situation in your life when you have thought about quitting.

Who can you turn to for help when times are tough and you feel like quitting?
