GEO-GRAPHICS:2d - metropolis

Project Type: Academic

Location: Westwood Village,

Los Angeles, California,

United States of America

Square footage: 693550 m²

Role: Designer, Production

In a 30 week studio under architect Neil Denari (NMDA), UCLA SUPRAstudio

explores the representation of urban fabric in GEO_GRAPHICS. A Tabula Rasa

project, the redefinition of Westwood Village, Los Angeles, California is one

that began in a freefall of graphic explorations. This design holds the DNA of

a conceptual process in which a pattern of contour lines are extracted from a

controlled surface. As the graphic pattern is further realized as an urban scheme,

the urban opportunities of the initial transformation from 3d to 2d becomes more

apparent with a taxonomy of building languages shaping urban experience through

the interstitial. The process ultimately provides new speculation on the culture of

urban planning and serves as an exploration.

Work-flow:new keelung harbor

Project Type: Professional

Location: Keelung, Taiwan

Square footage: 5300 m²

Role: Designer, Production

A competition that I participated in the summer of 2012 with NMDA, “Work-Flow:

New Keelung Harbor” will serve as a terminal, office building, and commercial

area to Keelung City and will be known to be the “Gateway to Central Asia” when

completed in 2017. It was a great experience to work with Neil Denari outside of

UCLA, and served to be an eye opening experience that exposed me to the reality

of graphic architecture.

The fuction of the project focuses on a flow of work and leisure transport. These

elements, while functioning separately, are connected through the mediums

of architecture and design. Using the same program and interacting at various

moments at each entity’s separate path, the flow of ideas and information are driv

ing forces in the design of the new service project.

U.n.f.Interfaith Chapel

Project Type: Professional

Location: Jacksonville, Florida, USA

Square Footage: 6500 ft²

Role: Designer, Production

Located in the University of North Florida, the proposal for the Interfaith Chapel by

Brooks + Scarpa is a project I worked closely with Lawrence Scarpa that addresses

the understanding of humanity through the unification of a greater force.

With a form inspired by a flowing dress, the metal cladded shell is a form supported

by a lamella truss; with openings directly aligned with astrological axis’ enhancing

the connection between the user, the building, and the cosmos.

“This combination of flowing natural and cosmic elements results in a unique,

formal building while providing a warm interior with soft filtered and reflected light.

It inspires an indelible wonder; a dreamlike state of mind that engages the user,

heightens their sense of awareness, and brings a deeper understanding to their

experience.”

Lake tahoefloating stage

Project Type: Professional

Location: South Lake Tahoe, CA, USA

Square Footage: 925 ft²

Role: Designer, Production

Credit: Ryder Design

The goal of the proposal for South Lake Tahoe is to re-invent the Lakeview

Commons Amphitheater experience in a way that fuses the serene nature of the

Sierra Nevada Mountains with the music and art culture of South Lake Tahoe.

Currently, concert goers experience live music from the park area and view the

act performing on the sand. Motivated to enhance this experience, the ambition

was to create a structure that could extend its medium to the lake itself. In doing

so, creates an opportunity that could enhanced the visual and audible impact to a

larger number of people.

Another goal was to have the structure serve a purpose in its dormant phase i.e.

when it is not being used as a stage. The opportunity presents itself as an ambition

to use architecture to enhance this motive.

The chrysalis-like structure floats in solace and serves as an art piece in dormant

periods and “awakens” when needed. Using pivots that shift three main pieces, a

relationship between these two formations is established; serving its purpose to

enhance the music and art culture around it.

Concert day experience.
