SELECTION CRITERIA:• A real interest in the subject area• A willingness to complete practical and written tasks• SLE Test Min Score: 8 Spatial and 2 Numerical• 2 GCSEs Grade E/2 in Maths and English• An interview and assessment to confirm suitability for the course

BRIEF DETAILS OF COURSE:This course covers an introduction to the construction industry. You will become accustomed to working in aworkshop/site environment as well as developing an understanding of Health & Safety in the work environment.

You will learn the basics of Carpentry & Joinery including hand tools, hand tool skills, marking out, forming basicjoints frames and timber objects.

There is a high importance of mature behaviour, attendance, punctuality and commitment on this course.

Safety footwear and yellow high visibility vest must be worn at all times.

MATHS & ENGLISH All courses will include Maths and English. This part of the course will help you to improve your Mathsand English skills and your friendly and experienced tutor willmake sure the course uses everyday experience relevant toyou.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED? There are no examinations for this course. The course isassessed through project work only.All project work must meet minimum standards set by theexternal Awarding Body.

PROGRESSION ROUTE:Learners can progress to a higher level (Level 1) constructioncourse at Stoke on Trent College
