Diego Masson’s distinguished career and his long, treasured relationship with Trinity Laban are celebrated in a concert in honour of his 80th birthday.
Masson’s enormous passion for the music of the 20th century and to new work is encapsulated in this programme featuring Shostakovich’s epic symphonic meditation on the events of the 1905 revolution: Métaboles, by Masson’s illustrious compatriot, Henri Dutilleux, which explores the concept of metamorphosis in music; and Janácek’s rarely heard tone-poem, The Fiddler’s Child, which tells a characteristically dark Czech folk-tale. Continuing the Symphony Orchestra’s commitment to performing student compositions, the programme is completed with a new work from Talia Morey.TICKETS: £12 | £7 concessions*Trinity Laban student commission

JEREMY HARDYFRIDAY 16 OCTOBER 8pm | Great Hall
Jeremy Hardy begins his fourth decade as a stand-up this year. That’s a more dramatic way of saying he started 31 years ago and, without a lottery win, probably has at least another 31 years to go.
Last year, the tenth series of Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation was broadcast on Radio 4. He is also well known for his appearances on The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. Indeed, Alan Bennett
recently said he likes him “but he’s only on the radio”.
However, Jeremy isn’t only on the radio. He is on the road all year round and has never stopped doing live shows since 1984. After briefly hibernating in the
winter, he's back out on the road in 2015.TICKETS: £14 £5 jobseekers/unwaged**subject to availability, proof of status required at time of booking, not available online

“Not only was their musicianship and performance magical, but there was also magic in the sense of trickery…music and
entertainment of absolute quality”The Orcadian
Joining the ranks of the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain stands the Budapest Café Orchestra. Hugely entertaining with immense skill and profound musicianship, they have won acclaim from fans, fellow musicians and critics alike for their electrifying and entertaining shows.
The Budapest Café Orchestra is a hybrid super acoustic band for the 21st Century, led by jazz violin superstar Christian Garrick and playing traditional folk and gypsy-flavoured music from across the Balkans and Russia.
Mournful Klezmer melodies, raucous Romanian Doinas and Hungarian Czadas are all encountered alongside
beautiful ballads, such as the theme to Schindler’s List and Andy Statman’s haunting Flatbush Waltz.
Evoking images of Tzigane fiddle maestros, Budapest café life and gypsy campfires – plus a few surprises along the way – a show by the BCO will make you want to book a holiday on the Danube!TICKETS: £15

As a result of the generous support of the Friends of Blackheath Halls, we have recently installed fans in the Great Hall, and as the first stage in the Halls new Capital Plan the Friends are also supporting a complete refurbishment and redecoration of the Café Bar and Foyer.
