ThisproceduresmanualisintendedtoclarifybasicJ-SchoolandUniversityproceduresforfaculty,staff,adjunctfacultyandgraduateteachingassistants.ItrepresentsacompilationofmaterialfoundintheFacultyHandbook,ScheduleofCourses,AcademicProgramscatalogandinvariouspolicymattersapprovedbytheSchoolofJournalismfaculty.Theofficestaffishappytoreceivesuggestionstothehandbook.Thishandbookisdividedintothefollowingsections:1)supportstaffdescriptions,2)generalMSUwebsites,3)buildinginformation,3)officesupportservices,4)teaching-relatedpolicies,5)workshopsfornewinstructors,6)checkingyourknowledgequizonstudentandfacultyrightsandresponsibilities.SUPPORTSTAFFTheSchoolofJournalismhasavarietyofsupportstafftohelpyou.Pleaseusethefollowingdescriptionsasaguideforeachmember’sresponsibilities:KareenLubas,AssistanttotheDirector(SecretaryII)–KareenservesasgeneralofficesupportfortheDirector.Shehiresstudentsandtemp/on-calllaboremployees,submitspayrollandarrangestravel(pleasecheckwithKareenbeforetravelingtocompletethetravelform).Kareenupdatestheproceduremanualanddepartmentdirectoryasneeded.SheorganizesSIRSandupdatesCLIFMSyearly.Herskillsallowhertoorganizespecialeventssuchasconferences,summerprograms,endowedlecturesandtheannualHallofFame.PleaseletherknowaboutcorrectionstotheJRNwebsite.KareenalsomaintainstheDirector’scalendar.NicoleBond,OfficeAssistant-Nicoletendstophonecalls,walk-insandgeneralofficeandfacultysupport.Shecanplaceordersforofficesuppliesandinfrastructureplanningandfacilitiesservices.Shemaintainsroomkeysandparkingpermitsforvisitors.Sheisavailableforcopying,scanning,typingorfiling.Sheisresponsibleforretrievingthemailonadailybasis,collectssyllabiforthenewsemester,andcanalsoreservetheconferenceroomsforyou.Sheisalsoavailabletoassistwithfacultyresearchandcreativeprojectsandplanandcoordinatetheirspecialevents.NancyAshley,AcademicProgramsCoordinator–NancyisresponsibleforJRNBA,MAandPhDscheduling(coursetimesandclassrooms).ShehandlestheJRNMAandI&MPhDprograms,includingapplications,studentfilesanddegreecertification.Partofherappointmentiswiththedean’soffice.ShealsodoesschedulingforMediaSandboxandvariousCAScourses.JenSpitzley,FiscalOfficer–Jenreviewsallunitfinancialtransactionsandoverseestheunitbudget,aswellaspersonnelandstaffprocedures.Whenanemployeeishired,shetakescareoftheappointmentandI-9
