Welcome!! Welcome!!

It's always nice to be able to give a tip o’ the hat to someone who used

to work at Tower Records, that sadly departed venerable institution of

music. So here’s to you Chino Moreno! Yep---that’s the singer from

Deftones who spent some time at Tower home base in Sacramento in

the 80s before striking success with that band. And he has a side

project (or three), that has been stirring for a couple of decades---Team

Sleep. They had one studio album on Maverick (aka Madonna’s label)

ten years back and sporadically appear on stage for a show or short

tour during Deftones’ down time. Last October, Chino and his five Team

Sleep bandmates set up in a barn in Woodstock and that incredible

evening of music has been captured live on disc. Cool beans!

Kindie Music/Kids Music/Children’s Music---all the same to us here at

burnside. We like it; A LOT! Caspar Babypants, The Not-Its, Recess

Monkey, Kira Willey, Brady Rymer, Tom Chapin and more---we got ‘em…

and are dang proud of it. This month, Red Yarn joins that lineup with a

stellar new album---Portland-based but universally appealing, the Deep

Woods Revival album is a welcome addition to our assortment.

FACT---There simply wasn’t a band like the Charlatans before they

existed. The psychedelic SF Victorian cowboys took the summer of ’64

off and away from the Haight and set down in the Red Dog Saloon in

Virginia City and changed things up musically. And in biblical fashion,

they begat the San Francisco Sound. Widely acknowledged but seldom

heard, these dandys reunited in 1997 for a live show that is finally

available and we are pleased to offer it up this month. By the time you

read this, you (and we) will have missed their 50th anniversary shows in

the hills of Northern Nevada…how can you miss them if they won’t go

away?

Nice to have a new Mike Coykendall album---longtime bdc favorite, he

did work in these offices for a spell in betwixt jaunts with M. Ward, She

and Him, latenight TV appearances, producing Richmond Fontaine and

others---it’s about time…

Tom Dyer fondly recalls the History of Northwest Rock series of Jerden

albums of the 60s filled with Seattle garage classics and therefore puts

his stamp on those albums and songs that we all love and revere…

producer, and recordist via his work with M Ward, Blitzen Trapper & Richmond Fontaine to name a few,

but he has also been making his own unique outsider records since the mid '80s. His latest takes the

listener closer to his live performances, using the "rig”, his one man live set-up, consisting of on oversized

Kay electric guitar, a tin can kick drum and a huge set of high-hat cymbals, all mixed in with lots of reverb,

delay and crunch. The record itself mixes excellent new compositions with some from his back catalogue

with fresh interpretations of other writers songs (he covers Roger Miller, Syd Barrett, etc) to great effect.
