BREAD & WINE
The bread and wine at all the Masses from July 8th to July 14th will be offered
in memory of Millie Ramos by Mr. & Mrs. R. Pineiro.
Dear Parishioners and Visitors, This weekend's Gospel introduces Jesus as a Prophet and explains how Prophets and other messengers from God inevitably suffer rejection. The story is the rejection by those who knew Jesus well but apparently under-stood him the least. These people are not ignorant of the teachings of Je-sus and the marvelous works he has accomplished. They do not question these things. What they challenge is the source of these teachings. Their question does not arise from awe but from resentment. Though astonished by his teachings and works, they take offense at him. The people lack the faith required for the power of God to be effective in their midst. So we see that Jesus did not perform many miracles there. It is not easy to recognize a true prophet. Just because someone makes the claim in the name of God, there is no guarantee that those claims are authentic. That explains why in history true prophets were at times perse-cuted and false prophets were honored. Prophet Ezekiel tells us about his call from God to be a prophet. Yahweh warns Ezekiel that he is being sent to obstinate and rebellious Israelites. Hence, as God's prophet, he will have to face rejection and persecution for bringing God's message to the people. Through today's second reading, St. Paul gives us the same warn-ing from his own experience that every messenger of the Gospel will have to encounter hardships and rejection in their mission. By our baptism, we are called to be prophets, sharing Christ's prophetic mission. As prophets our task is to speak the truth and oppose the evil in our society without condoning or encouraging sinful behavior. Don't allow rejection to derail your dreams. We must never remain silent in the face of evil for fear of being rejected or unpopular. Church's call is to be prophetic voice. Jesus was not against conflict, if it promoted truth. God Bless you all. Fr. Antony Vadakara, CMI
