Please pray for peace in our world and for the safe return of members of our parish family serving in war torn areas .

We will have a special blessing for all gradu-ates at our 11am Mass on Sunday, June 10th. All graduates please plan to attend to receive a spe-cial blessing celebrating

your accomplishments.

THE MYSTERY OF THE BLESSED TRINITY Today we celebrate the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The Church sets aside this Sunday to focus our attention on the mystery of the Blessed Trinity, God who is one, but three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The first reading from Deuteronomy emphasizes both God’s awesome greatness and amazing near-ness. It might seem beyond belief, but the God of all creation speaks to us, protects us, and guides us. The second reading from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Romans describes how we are to relate to the three persons who are one God. We are led by the Spirit to meet God the Father as adopted children. Our adoption is such that we are even heirs with our brother, Christ, the second person of the Trin-ity, in whose sufferings we must also share. In Mat-thew’s Gospel, Jesus speaks with his authority as God and sends us to teach and baptize in the name of the Trinity. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Even though the Easter season has drawn to a close, today’s feast still basks in the glow of Easter’s twilight. To believe that we are made in the image and likeness of God—a God whose in-ner life is described in terms of community—is to recognize that we are in relationship with one an-other. In the language of the liturgy, we do not each stand alone before God, but constantly af-firm this truth in the very words of our prayers. “We believe, we offer, we ask you,” we say, or “have mercy on us, hear us, listen to our prayer,” and in preparation for Communion, we pray the perfect prayer to “Our Father.” To be baptized is to enter into the life of a com-munity of faith. Nowhere is this sense of commu-nity more focused than at Sunday Mass, when we respond to the love of the Father by being to-gether in Christ, embraced by the Spirit, for the sake of the world. Today has been called an “idea feast,” and impossible to grasp fully. Yet, as the readings today explore, the Trinity is not a con-cept traced like a triangle on a blackboard. It is the air we breathe, the sign we trace on our bod-ies as a pledge and promise of God’s love. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Project Response

Religious Education Fall Registration

Religious Education registration forms for fall classes are available in the breezeway. About Religious Education: Religious Education is a lifelong process. As our lives change so does our understanding of our God and our faith. We have never learned eve-rything. For our young children we offer First Communion preparation which, normally, begins in first grade with the sacraments of First Confession and First Communion received in second grade. Often First Communion preparation is delayed until a child is older. We are very happy to have your children at any age. After First Communion we offer weekday, after school, classes from third through sixth grade. Our seventh and eighth graders have the opportu-nity to attend bi-weekly classes on Tuesday eve-ning with the alternate Tuesday evening as a youth ministry experience called MAX PAX. One of our favorite series of classes is called Fam-ily Faith. This is offered to children in third grade and older and their parents. These classes meet on the first Sunday of the month from October through April. A faith topic is presented to parents and children which corresponds to the child’s text-book. During the following month parents review the topic with their child. If you would like more information please call or e-mail the Religious Education Office. We look for-ward to seeing you this year.

ATTENTION ADULTS SEEKING ENRICHMENT AND UPDATING OF THEIR FAITH:

St. Jude’s is offering a Faith Formation Course on Tuesday mornings starting June 5th. The sessions start at 9AM and ends at 1PM. All the basic faith topics are covered. Child care is available. Call Cindy Kozal at 818-889-0612 or e-mail [email protected] for more information.

Did You Know?

Any adult who works with children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles must be fingerprinted and attend a Virtus (child abuse awareness ) class. Information on child safety is located in the breezeway. Parents: For your children’s safety please accompany them to the restrooms during Mass.

In this presentation, parish member Don Bessler, will share his 20 years of experience successfully investing in a variety of market en-vironments. He will discuss investment topics including the global macroeconomic outlook and his investment philosophy, which focuses on in-dividual companies’ business fundamen-tals. Please bring your questions and concerns about equity investing to what should prove to be a timely discussion topic.

Tuesday, June 5, Catholic Business Community (CBC) Speaker:

Don Bessler Chief Investment Officer/Portfolio Manager,

Windward Capital Management 4:30-6:00 in the Youth Room in O’Reilly Hall

F e a r o r G r e e d ? At the height of the financial crisis in late-2008/early-2009, pundits were predicting “the end of the world.” As a result, the majority of investors became terrified and sold their stock holdings, flocking to the “safety” of fixed income or cash. Since the March 2009 low, however, the S&P 500 Index has more than doubled—and many individual stocks have done even better. Despite the equity markets’ gains, however, most individuals continue to believe that investing in stocks is too risky.

Employment Ministry—Meeting Notice “Building a Powerful Resume—How to be Noticed”

June 6, 2012, St. Maximilian Catholic Church, 7:00 p.m. Room 2

If you are currently in the job market, you cannot afford to miss the next meeting of the St. Maximilian Employment Ministry on June 6, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 2. Did you know that a resume is typically looked at, initially, for no more than 30 seconds due to time constraints and the sheer volume of resumes received? Some are even reviewed by scanner. How do you get noticed? Steve Kolodin, Marketer-in-Chief, Westlake Marketing Group will offer his decades of experience to assist you in putting powerful tools available to you into action, helping to build that resume that will get you noticed and in tailoring it to suit your goals and target companies. Bring your resumes, your questions and any target positions or compa-nies; you may also submit your resume in advance to [email protected]. If you have any questions or wish further information about the Em-ployment Ministry, contact: Ron Cooke Bill Martinet 818-515-1656 805 405-2190 [email protected] [email protected]

MAX PAX – Junior High Youth Ministry 7th & 8th Graders, we had two more MAX PAX nights cal-endared, June 5th and June 19th. Unfortunately we need to cancel both of those and take the next three months of Tuesday’s off. Your Youth Minister needs more recov-ery time from back surgery. Please watch the bulletin during those months for sum-mer activities you may want to join in on, like beach trips, hiking and smores and the annual weekend camp-ing trip! All incoming 7th & 8th Graders will be welcome to those activities! Youth 2 The Max – High School Youth Ministry “Heart of a Soul Surfer” is a documentary about Beth-any Hamilton, the young Christian surfer who lost her arm to a shark. High Schoolers, come to O’Reilly Hall this Wednesday to watch Bethany’s journey of faith and see what it inspires in you……we just never know what blessings can come in our lives if we have a heart of faith in God! We’ll be there from 7-8:30pm. – bring your friends, we’ll supply the treats

Tips for Summer Camp Safety Summer is almost here. School is almost out, and a whole host of new opportunities for recreation and re-laxation await. Maybe you are sending your children to a music or sports camp? Or maybe they have been in-vited by their friends to go camping in the mountains or at the beach? Whatever the situation, it is important to remember that parents still have the responsibility of controlling access that new people will have to their children. If your children are attending a summer camp, insist that counselors or anyone else who might have access to your children have undergone an application process that includes a criminal background check and reference checks. For additional resources from VIR-TUS© Online go to http://archla.org/safeguard “Summer Safety Tips Can Help Prevent Child Sexual Abuse” For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650
