Library Highlights

Reflections: A Creative Community Art Project Following the huge success of last year’s Crochet It project, the library is about to embark upon another exciting community project. The library will be working with well-known South Shore glass artist, Kathy Seff, to create unique art glass squares to be installed on fencing outside the Selden building. The kick-off sessions will be held on Saturday, June 9th from 10:00am-12:00pm and Sunday, June 10th between 2:00pm-4:00pm at MCPL Selden and will feature an artist talk, instruction and creation of glass tile art. Throughout the summer, community members attending programs at the library will have opportunities to take part in this special project. This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Huntington Arts Council. Additional support provided by the Friends of the Middle Country Public Library.

Have Fun With the Friends at Five Guys Monday, April 16th

4:00 pm- 10:00 pm

In an effort to find new and exciting ways to earn money for the Friends of MCPL, we will be joining with Five Guys in Selden at 202 Independence Plaza (right near Rite Aid and Home Depot) to do just that. Just come to the Five Guys in Selden on Monday, April 16th between the hours of 4:00pm-10:00pm and 10% of all the sales during that time will go to the Friends. Talk about a “win-win” situation! You get a night out with your family and friends while enjoying their famous burgers, shakes and fries, and the Friends will benefit! The Friends will have an information table at Five Guys from 4:00pm-7:00pm to answer questions from any patrons who are interested in learning about our organization as well as to greet our members. Be on the lookout and feel free to come say, “Hello.” Thank you in advance for your support. We hope to see a big family of Friends at Five Guys.

Museum Day marks its 30th year on Thursday, May 17th at the Centereach building. For those of you who are not aware of this popular event, representatives from many local museums, science and nature centers come to MCPL to share information regarding their collections, programs and exhibits. It is a great way to learn about places on LI and to plan for spring and summer outings. The Friends are proud to continue to supply the much-needed collection bags to hold all the material our patrons receive at this event. Hope to see you there.

Exciting New Friends’ Expanded Garage Sale Saturday, August 4th

Rain Date: August 11th

We’re trying something new this year! The Garage Sale is going to take place outside in the

back parking lot of the Centereach building. Instead of having members bring donations for us to sell for the Friends, we will be renting “spaces” for $20.00 each in the parking lot where patrons will be able to sell their own garage sale items. If you are interested in serving on the Garage Sale Committee, please email us at [email protected]. Be on the lookout for more details in the summer issue of Just Between Friends, which will be sent at the beginning of June.
