Chapter Director
Hello Chapter and Friends.
We fared well and had a lot of fun in the Castroville Fourth of July Parade. We also made the District
Newsletter read about what happened there.
Our second Bike Night at Sonic went well. The bike night purpose is so the community can see our motorcycles
out. They think twice when they see a motorcycle group. Dino and Curtis each fared very well. They were the
big winners of a $25 gift cards from Sonic and Walmart.
Hope this hot weather starts cooling down soon. The heat has scared a lot of you all off. If you wear the right
gear you can ride with no problem. Looking forward to seeing more of you all get back out on the road.
Wing Ding 39 (Aug. 29-Sept. 2, 2017) is coming around the corner. I hope you all made your reservations by
now. Don't forget our Big Bend Trip (Oct. 25-29, 2017). This is going to be nice ride up there. We are also
planning a trip to go up to the Lone Star Rally (Nov. 2-4, 2017) in Galveston. This is always a lot of fun even if
you go for the day. There are tons vendors.
Armando Vasquez our ACD will be having surgery today. Please keep him in your prayers for a speeding
recovery. As you remember from our last Gathering Donna's position as Educator will be going to District. Her
official title will be Ride Coordinator. She gets a big break on her paperwork. Lucky her.
As we talked about in our July Gathering, the Regional Team has been eliminated to just three levels: GWRRA
Chapter Level, District Level and National Level. This will help chapter directors out tremendously with
communication.
Pat and I received a huge surprise. We were inducted into the GWRRA Hall of Honor. We also received nice
heavy badges and patches. A copy of the certificate is in the newsletter (pg. 2).
I am now also part of the GWRRA Texas District Team. I became an officer Mid-July and will serve the GWRRA
Community as well as our Chapter.
It takes volunteers lots of time and effort to keep all this organization going. We will be planning our 2018
District Rally very soon. The Rally will be better than ever. The new District Team is full of energy and
knowledge learned from past officers who will continue their support.
See Ya Soon!

TIPS from Donna I am confused! Don't know if I should start singing Jingle Bells or practice "trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat" or go shopping for the biggest turkey I can find in the frozen foods. Have you noticed that along with the back to school supplies, some stores have already stocked their Halloween candies and decorations? Some have also added Thanksgiving stuff, while others have added all three! Granted the days are now getting just a tad bit shorter, daylight wise, but really! Daylight time is growing shorter but the temps are soaring! Triple digits now in multiple days straight. Just gotta get the air conditioning fixed on that Spyder. It just keeps blowing hot air, hehe. With the higher temps we have decided to do just breakfast runs, and end the rides before noon until the temps start to drop again. There will be a couple of evening rides to balance out the next few weeks. Although it will still be hot, later in the evening it will start to cool a bit. If you have a favorite breakfast spot or dinner spot, please send it my way or on to Mike. Might as well enjoy our ability to get out and live life! As previously noted, some of the rides that have been postponed or canceled will be put back on the calendar in cooler weather. If you
have special needs health wise when on a ride, please let me know so that we can ensure your needs are met. If more frequent gas stops or health breaks are needed, just say so. No one will complain, believe me! In the group riding class we recently participated in, a question was brought up regarding lane changes and cross over. You have probably been on a ride when someone left the group during a staggered formation. The rider in the left third of the lane crossed over to the right third of the lane and everyone else followed suit or vice versa. It is far safer for the person in the left or the right lane to just move up one position and everyone behind follow suit. Going back to lane changes, there really is no need to cross over in lane position changes. When the need arises to change lanes, if you were traveling in the right lane, on the inside nearest the centerline, as the lane changes to the left lane, you will now be on the outside lane nearest the ditch. The only person who should change positions is the lead bike, as it should always be in position nearest the centerline so that a good line of sight is available. As always, ride safe and be seen! By the Book
The “By the Book” articles are intended to help familiarize Volunteer Leaders and GWRRA
members with the policies, procedures, and information contained in the GWRRA Officer’s
Handbook (OHB). A copy of the Officer’s Handbook can be found at www.gwrra.org - Click on the
Officer Connection tab at the bottom of the page; then select Officer’s Handbook in the upper
right-hand corner. Please feel free to reprint these articles in Region, District, or Chapter newsletters
THE IDEALS OF GWRRA
The most important ingredient for a
successful Association is the Member.
Where do we find them and how do we
make these people interested enough to
want to become one of us? Before anyone
can be successful in “selling” GWRRA, they
must first sit for a moment and determine
the reason they joined. Each of us had our
own reasons – it may have been the
emphasis on keeping each other safe when
riding, the 'G-rated' family atmosphere of
our events or that we know the best places
for food and desserts. In most cases the
motorcycles brought us together and it’s
the relationships and ideals of GWRRA that
keep us together. Let's take a closer look at
these ideals:
PROMOTE SAFETY - This will help us
continue to enjoy our hobby. We can also
enjoy the fact that we are doing something
to protect others by teaching them safe
riding practices. We are saving lives!
PROMOTE FRIENDSHIP - Among ALL of the
motorcycling public. What better way to
enjoy our way of life than 9 to make friends
and share with them?
PROMOTE THE POSITIVE IMAGE OF THE
MOTORCYCLE RIDER –
We must always keep “our best foot
forward”.
PROMOTE FUN - This is the glue that holds
it all together!
PROVIDE A MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE -
GWRRA will provide a money-back
guarantee to any Member that is of the
opinion the Association has failed to live up
to their expectations.
It really does boil down to Friends for fun,
safety and knowledge, and we back that up
with a money back guarantee!
There are good reasons for the way things
are.
The more you know, the better it gets!

Hello Chapter K2,
Summertime is here! That doesn’t mean you stop riding your motorcycle or going
to motorcycle events. Get out and RIDE. We make several rest stops and
encourage staying hydrated. Encourage other people and friends to ride and have
lots of fun. We want to invite you to our future events coming up. Take a look at
the newsletter, calendar and events listing to see where you might want to
participate.
If you have any potential new members and not sure on how to talk about GWRRA.
Please let the Director know and get their contact information email, phone
number or address. He will communicate with them.
Let’s continue to make our Chapter stronger in working together and supporting
the community, events and rides. Take a look at the Chapter Calendar for
upcoming Events, Rides, Tuesday Dinners, Bike Night and more. Remember the

EDITOR’S NOTES
Only 5 months for 2018. Hard to believe how fast the year is going
by! We are looking forward to Wing Ding 39 later this month. K2
members going to Wing Ding 39 are going on motorcycles, RV’s and
others in cages. REALLY EXCITED ON GOING!!
We had a remarkable month in July. Chapter K2’s Bike Night’s at
Sonic continue having an excellent turnout! Riders shared
motorcycle tips, riding stories and advice. Sonic gave free drink
coins to riders. Participation tickets were also passed out to riders who rode their
bikes for a chance to win a $25 gift card. We had 2 WINNERS!! Congrats: Curtis
Tondre and Dino Wood.
It’s August and summer is still around. To keep out of heat, we have added
Saturday Dinner Rides as suggested by members. REMEMBER to keep hydrated,
the weather is hot and it will drain you quickly so drink all the water you can. This
is a must. Get out there whenever you can and enjoy the ride.
Well I think that is it for this time, take care, ride safe and HAPPY TRAILS
EVERYONE!!
Ride Safe & Often!

Different Vacation
Billy Bob and Larry were talking
one afternoon when Billy Bob
tells Larry, “Yaw know. I reckon
I’m ‘bout ready for a vacation.
Only this year I’m gonna do it
different. The last few years, I
took your advice about where to
go.
Three years ago, you said to go
to Hawaii. I went to Hawaii and
Sally got pregnant.
Then two years ago, you told me
to go the Bahamas, and Sally got
pregnant again.
Last year you suggested Tahiti
and darn if Sally didn’t get
pregnant again.”
Larry asks Billy Bob, “So, what
you gonna do this year that’s
different?
“I’m taking Sally with me.”
