Once upon a time, in a small but powerful

town of Unye, Turkey lived a beautiful girl

    called Karbeyaz1

.She was once a happychild and her smile brought joy to the

citizens of the little town. But soon after

her sixth birthday, misfortune struck. A

terrible and great fire broke loose in the

small town, spreading quickly like afalling line of dominoes, burning down

everything to smoky ash. She fled with

warm tears streaking down her face,

clutching to her father's scorched hand.

Her mother was never seen again.

Her father found a job, as a tailor4, in a

nearby town, and over time he became

well known across Turkey. He created fineand exquisite masterpieces. The most

powerful and rich customers bought from

him. Eventually they were able to afford a

very big house with many servants. But

Karbeyazs father was lonely. He missed

his dear wife. He went to the towns

    matchmaker and found a dazzling

    woman. Karbeyaz welcomed her

gratefully. She had wished for a mother

ever since the fire, but her new

    stepmother, Kiskanc Anne2 wasnt as

    gratified by the arrangement.

Unfortunately, her father was always in

his workroom, so Karbeyaz and Kiskanc

Anne were alone in the grand house.Kiskanc made Karbeyaz work hard,

combing her hair and polishing her nails,

as she was jealous, jealous of Karbeyazs

beauty. All the young men of the town

were in love with Karbeyaz, and so wasthe prince. It was the prince who the evil

stepmother had wanted to marry. He had

immense power and riches, but she had

to settle for the rich tailor instead. She

was determined to marry the prince, and

divorce her pathetic husband, even if the

    prince didnt love her back.

One day Kiskanc strolled through the

towns market. She was looking for jewelry

that was too expensive for her husband to

buy, when she came across a peculiar

stall at the end of a dark alley. The

shopkeeper was pouring green liquid in a

tall vial when she approached him. How

do you do Madame. May I interest you ina truth serum? A love potion? A poison?

He said the last word with a mischievous

grin. Kiskanc eyes glowed like an ember

as she pulled out a strand of pearls and

placed them on the table. Make me a

potion that drains beauty and one thatproduces love.

The shopkeeper smirked. The lady evil

emanated from her repulsive eyes. He

pulled out a thick dagger with the evil eye

engraved at the hilt. When the dagger

touches someone's blood, it would drain

the beauty from her veins like a snakes

fang. However beautiful the victim is,

however ugly he or she will be.

    Kiskanc was pleased.

    Kiskanc rushed home, her purchases

tucked under her cloak. Her grim smile

slid off her face when she saw the prince

at her home. Somehow she knew he

wasnt there to ask her own hand inmarriage.

    Mother! Anne! Karbeyaz greeted her

stepmother, The prens3 has asked for my

hand in marriage!Mother Anne glared. However, she could

not express her anger as the prince

    waited expectantly.

Oh, how lovely. How did this happen?

    she simpered with false happiness.

The prince stepped forward and offered

an explanation of how he was searching

for a bride and stumbled upon this

beauty that glowed like the night stars

    shining down on Lake Eymir.

Even though she was enraged, Kiskancs

    evil, cunning mind worked best like that;

a plan was forming in the stepmothers

head. She hid the dagger and the potion

in the long tunic that she planned to wearon the day of the marriage.

On her special day,, Karbeyaz felt happy,

something she hadnt felt since before

the great fire. The whole town wascelebrating, throwing flowers and

dancing; the only one who wasnt smiling

was Kiskanc Anne. With a glare, she drew

    the knife from her pocket.

At the time, Karbeyaz and her new

husband were dancing when an evil glow

emerged from their right. The knife flew

towards them with frightening speed. The

prince saw the dagger zooming straight

at Karbeyaz and pushed her out of the

way. The knife struck him with such force

he was blown backward into the wall.

Green smoke circled him and a piercing

scream filled the room, echoing against

the marble walls. Karbeyaz rushed to herprince and almost fainted with shock. The

green smoke had cleared and in the

princes place were seven ugly, short

men. Yedi Cucler, the Turkish called

them. " Nooooo!!!" a shout filled the

room. " You stupid girl, look what youhave done. That knife was meant to strike

    you!" Kiskanc bellowed.

" You? You did this? Why? " Karbeyaz

whispered with tears in her eyes, " What

    have you done to him?"

" That dagger has vaporized his beauty.

Obviously the amount of ugliness was too

much for one body to bear so it had to

    create more bodies to

    fill with the power of

    the eye."

    Karbeyaz just sobbed in

    reply.

    "What are you looking

    at?" the evil

    stepmother demandedat the frightened

    crowd. Everyone turned

and hid their heads. They couldn't believe

    what had happened.

" Well, since that failed, I could just..." shepicked up the dagger covered in blood,

and she turned to face Karbeyaz.

However, Karbeyaz and the many little

    princes had fled.

Her malicious green eyes widened. Her

plan had gone terribly wrong. She stalked

out of the room, unaware of the many

blinking eyes that belonged to the very

    stunned and terrified guests.

Deep in the woods, Karbeyaz stopped

running. Panting, she turned to the seven

little men that had once been her prince.

She peered a little closely and found that

they all had the same eyes as the prince.

They sat blinking at each other in silenceuntil one of them spoke.

" I'm still myself you know." said one of

    the little men.

Of course. And I still love you. All of you,"

she said and she kissed each one of the

little ugly men on the head. She still lovedthe prince and he had saved her life. She

didnt care much of how someone looked,

Im sure we could find a way to fix this"

    another one said.

Of course. But how? I never knew Anne

hated me so much. She did look

intimidating, but I guess I misjudged her."

They pondered in silence, for a solution to

their problem. Finally, Karbeyaz had an

    idea.

We should go to the potion master for a

    remedy for this curse."

So the seven yedi culcier and Karbeyaz

    ventured into the town, avoiding

anywhere near Kiscanks house. Theyappeared in a dark, smelly alley with a

faint glow at the end. They ventured

through cautiously, careful not to step on

anything that might be lurking in the

shadows. The seven little men's feet

pattered like raindrops on the damp floor. At last they reached the end of the alley,

where they were greeted by an awful

face. Covered with boils and scaly looking

skin, they faced the infamous potion

    master.

" Oh, I see you have seen the sharp blade

of my evil eye dagger. I suppose you

have come looking for a remedy... Oh yes

    I've been expecting you...."

The eight of them nodded eagerly,

however, a little resistant to the strange

    man.

He shuffled behind his large rotting desk

and pulled out a pink looking concoction.

This will put you back together," he

smirked.Karbeyaz reached forward, but before she

could take it, the potion master jerked

back his hand and put his other, empty

    hand forward.

Karbeyaz was perplexed, but one of thelittle men said, He wants money! But I

have none with me. Do you?"

No of course not, Anne took all the

    money father gave me."

No money, no potion. You will have to

stay ugly and short forever, and not to

mention you wont ever be in one piece."

Oh please! Isn't there another way?

    Karbeyaz pleaded.

Well, killing the person who stabbed you

with that dagger would banish the curse

forever..." He said with a skeptical glint in

his eye, discerning that the pretty little

girl would never commit such a terrible

    sin.

I have another idea." Karbeyaz declared. She whispered in the strange man's

    deformed ear.

"Oh very well," he pulled out a dagger, an

evil eye at its hilt. It was a twin to the one

that had cursed the prince."What are you doing?" all of the little men

asked. But it was too late, green smoke

had already appeared. She had stabbed

    herself.

The twisted man laughed. Seven little

ugly women had appeared in place of one

    beautiful girl.
