The project is designed to produce syngas that will be used as a clean feedstock for the production of SNG. The new facility will include several state-of-the-art units, including air separation, partial oxidation for syngas production, syngas treatment, acid gas removal, methanation and solid sulfur production. KBR provides turnaround services for Canadian refinery S uncor Energy has selected KBR to undertake turnaround services for its refinery in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Under a three-year agreement, KBR will assist with turnaround planning review, maintenance, pipe fabrication and long-term execution plans for the Suncor Edmonton refinery. Wison, Black & Veatch target offshore LNG projects S hanghai, China-based Wison Offshore & Marine Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding with Black & Veatch to jointly pursue barge-based natural gas liquefaction facility projects. Wison will be responsible for barge design and engineering, and overall project management, construction, delivery and financing of the integrated facility, while Black & Veatch will provide the basic and detailed LNG plant designs, supply certain LNG equipment and components as well as provide commissioning services and process guarantees. The agreement formalises a relationship between the two companies developed through their collaboration on the first floating LNG liquefaction, storage and regasification facility which is currently under construction at Wison’s facility in Nantong, China. WATER & WASTEWATER Hyflux signs MOUs for water projects in China’s Yunnan Province H yflux Ltd subsidiary Hyflux Investment Consultancy and Management Service (Tianjin) Co Ltd has signed two memoranda of understanding (MOUs) to explore developing water and environmental projects in Chuxiong and Qujing in Yunnan province, China. The projects covered under the MOUs include the development of water recycling, wastewater treatment plants and potable water treatment plants as well as related infrastructure work. The projects would adopt Hyflux’s advanced Kristal ultrafiltration membrane technology, and could be developed by Hyflux and/or its potential partners. Long term study for Hong Kong’s sewer and drainage networks S marter use of data, prioritised upgrades and a 20-year asset management plan are cornerstones of a major study, undertaken by the Drainage Services Department (DSD) of the Hong Kong SAR and Black & Veatch. The study addresses the need to enhance rehabilitation programmes for Hong Kong’s existing drainage and sewerage infrastructure. This is a common, pressing issue facing water and electric utilities throughout the world, and highlighted in recent reports by Black & Veatch. Black & Veatch says that it will identify cost-effective and advanced methods to restore and maintain Hong Kong’s almost 4000 km of underground sewers and drains. Taking a holistic, long-term approach, Black & Veatch will develop a plan to prioritise rehabilitation and replacement works as well as optimise inspection surveys. Applying more effective IT is also a key consideration. The study will look at options to enhance data articulation in relation to operation and maintenance of the sewer and drainage network. “The more information at your fingertips, the more you can optimise the performance of your assets. This can help implement the right programmes and technologies,” said Kelvin Lau, associate vice president, Black & Veatch’s global water business. “Data intelligence is the building block of smarter, modern cities. DSD will soon have a more comprehensive and structured long term strategy to rehabilitate its networks.” The ‘Enhanced Management of Underground Sewer and Drain Networks – Feasibility Study’ is expected to take 30 months to complete. Ecological water plant planned for French town and holiday village T he Vienne Water and Wastewater Authority has contracted MSE, a Veolia Water subsidiary, to build a wastewater treatment plant for the town of Les Trois Moutiers and the future Vienne Center Parcs holiday village in France. The plant is designed with a population equivalent capacity of 8000, including 6500 for the Center Parcs facility. The ecological water treatment process will be based on the Organica system that combines conventional wastewater treatment technology with an ecosystem: the roots of plants will grow under a glasshouse and extend up to 1.5 m into the effluent and encourage the development of bacteria and living organisms.
