Pandemi(dari bahasa Yunani (pan) yang artinya "semua dan (demo) yang artinya "orang adalah epidemi penyakit menularyang menyebar melalui populasi manusia di seluruh kawasan yangluas, misalnya beberapa benua, atau bahkan di seluruh dunia

Epidemidari (epi), yang berarti "di atas atau di atas" dan (demo), yang berarti "orang") yaitu suatu kasus baru penyakittertentu, dalam populasi tertentu, dan selama periode tertentu,yang secara substansial melebihi apa yang diperkirakanberdasarkan pengalaman sebelumnya.

Menurut WHO, pandemi terjadi bila ketiga syarat terpenuhi :1. Timbulnya penyakit bersangkutan merupakan suatu hal

baru pada populasi bersangkutan2. Agen penyebab penyakit menginfeksi manusia dan

menyebabkan sakit serius3. Agen penyebab penyakit menyebar dengan mudah dan

berkelanjutan pada manusia. Suatu penyakit atau keadaan tidak dapat dikatakan sebagai

pandemi hanya karena menewaskan banyak orang. Contoh,meskipun kanker menimbulkan angka kematian tinggi tetapitidak dapat digolongkan pandemi karena tidak ditularkan

Dikatakan bahwa pandemi influenza terjadi setiap 30-40tahun
