1.Cleansing - Excretes waste products after metabolism• The kidneys are sophisticated reprocessing

machines.• Every day, a person's kidneys process about

200 quarts of blood to sift out about 2 quarts of waste products and extra water.

• The wastes and extra water become urine, which flows to the bladder through tubes called ureters.

• The bladder stores urine until releasing itthrough urination.

• The kidneys measure out chemicals like sodium,

phosphorus, and potassium and release them back into the

blood to return to the body, regulating the body's levels of

these substances.

• Kidneys release renin, which helps regulate blood pressure.

• Kidneys regulate the pH (the acidity of the blood plasma)

and water composition in the blood, and help maintain a

normal blood pressure.

3. Hormone secretion

In addition to removing waste, the kidneys release three

important hormones:

•Erythropoietin, or EPO, which stimulates the bone

marrow to make red blood cells

•Renin, which regulates blood pressure

•Calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D, which helps

maintain calcium for bones and normal chemical balance in

the body

4. Filtering - Renal FunctionHealth professionals use the term "renal function" to talk about how efficiently the kidneys filter blood.

People with two healthy kidneys have 100 percent of their kidney function. Small or mild declines in kidney function-as much as 30 to 40 percent-would rarely be noticeable.

Kidney function is now calculated using a blood sample and a formula to find the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). The eGFR corresponds to the percent of kidney function available.

•They are bean-shaped, about 4” (10 cm) long and about 2.5” (6.4 cm) wide.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)• Some conditions damage your kidneys and decrease their ability to

keep you healthy. If kidney disease gets worse, wastes can build to high levels in your blood and make you feel sick.

• CKD may increase complications like high blood pressure, anemia (low blood count), weak bones, poor nutritional health and nerve damage.

• Kidney disease increases your risk of having cardiovascular disease, which may happen slowly over a long period of time.

• CKD may be caused by diabetes, high blood pressure and other disorders. Early detection and treatment can often keep chronic kidney disease from getting worse.

• When kidney disease progresses, it may eventually lead to kidney failure, which requires dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life.

Main Causes of CKD• Two main causes are responsible for up to two-thirds of the cases.

1.Diabetes occurs when your blood sugar is too high, causing damage to many organs in your body, including the kidneys and heart, as well as blood vessels, nerves and eyes.

2.High blood pressure, or hypertension, occurs when the pressure of your blood against the walls of your blood vessels increases. If uncontrolled, or poorly controlled, high blood pressure can be a leading cause of heart attacks, strokes and chronic kidney disease. Also, chronic kidney disease may cause high blood pressure.

Kidney Stones

• Kidney stones are small, hard deposits that form inside the kidneys.

• They are made of mineral and acid salts.

• Kidney stones have many causes and can affect any part of your urinary tract — from your kidneys to your bladder.

• Often, stones form when urine becomes concentrated, allowing minerals to crystallize and stick together.

Protein

• Too much animal protein increases the strain on the kidneys because protein breakdown results in a buildup of urea in the bloodstream. Eating foods that are lower in [animal] protein can help to decrease levels of urea and improve how kidney patients feel.

• Replace high-protein foods like meat, eggs and milk products with lower-protein options like grains and beans.

• The modern day convenience food lifestyle and excess consumption are two of the leading causes of self-inflicted kidney damage.

• A kidney cleanse restores your body's ability to filter toxins, and

• Can help maintain proper kidney function and help reduce the likelihood of kidney stones.

• The best solution is a proper diet and exercise regiment along with consuming plenty of water each day.

Shitake Mushroom• In the 1980’s, the Pharmaceutical Council of Japan

approved lentinan, a polysaccharide found in Shiitake mushroom as a drug.

• Lentinan has many immuno-potentiating properties including the enhancement of natural killer (NK) cells and increased production of gamma interferon.

• Study after study has proven that lentinan combined with chemotherapy is more effective than chemotherapy alone. However, the dosage administered is an important part of the healing process. Too small or too big a dosage may be ineffective.
