FROM THE PASTOR This year I'm thankful for ...A new church that has given me the opportunity to "come home again" (What did Thomas Wolfe know?)

• Our daughter finding her place in Grad School in Philadelphia...after a wonderful year in California with Lutheran Volunteer Corps - each move seems to bring new purpose, maturity, and joy!

• A trip of a lifetime with my big brother to Lambeau Field and everything Packers in Green Bay, Wisconsin

• Wonderful worship services at both 8:30 and 11:00 - with music from musicians who add so much to our worship services

• A marvelous staff that keeps me straight and answers all my questions (and there are many!) Special thanks to Liz, Gail, and Don...and to all the volunteers who do so much to keep Kimball Church up and running .

• Walks on the Beach in the summer...a fire and a good book in the winter...football in the fall, baseball in the summer (and college basketball anytime!)

• The children and youth of this church who I'm growing very fond of very quickly!

• Friendships that endure the test of time! You know it's a strong one when you pick back up after 8 years...12 years...20 years...25 years...30 years! I'm blessed to call so many in this place 'Friend' - and hope to call many more by that same name!

• My wife, who has loved me for over 40 years (high school sweethearts!)...and has been married to me for 33 years. Each day she gives me strength and comfort, hope, humor and love - what a good thing!

• Wonderful memories of people I've loved who are not with us anymore - parents, in-laws, many people in 3 churches over 30 years - but who are, in a very real sense, ALWAYS with me. I'm so blessed by the influences of so many good folks.

• Another Thanksgiving with family/friends - a little football, a lot of food, and even more conversation and laughter. It's one of my favorite Holidays. I hope that yours is filled with good times...and that you have more blessings than you can possibly count this year!

PASTOR PALMER CLEMMER RETURNS FOR STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY ON NOVEMBER 20TH - ONE SERVICE

10:00 am

Pastor Palmer Clemmer, who served this church well from 1978-1982, will return to Kimball Memorial to be our Stewardship Speaker on Sunday Morning, November 20th. On that Sunday, the parish will have ONE worship service - at 10:00 AM - and the service will be followed by our traditional Thanksgiving Meal, hosted by our High School and Middle School Youth and Parents. Pastor Clemmer is a native of Gastonia, a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He is married to Cyndi - a native of Raleigh and also an LR grad - and together the two of them served Kimball Memorial as their first call out of seminary. In addition, they have served Lutheran congregations in North Myrtle Beach, SC; Southern Pines, NC; Hendersonville, NC;

Charleston, SC; and Hendersonville,

Tenn. We are so pleased that Palmer and Cyndi have returned to North Carolina and are in the process of building a home very close to their beloved Lenoir-Rhyne! We hope to see a good bit more of both of them now that they are so much closer to us! Please make plans to join us on November 20th for this special service and meal...and a chance to hear more about a challenge to grow our Stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure in this wonderful congregation. Please let former members/friends know of Pastor Clemmer's return to preach for us...we're hoping for a wonderful crowd to listen, learn, and grow!

It's with great joy that we received new members on Reformation Sunday - the last Sunday in October. Please watch for full information on these new members in the December Newsletter, including backgrounds, work, school, hobbies, etc. Contact information on these new members has been included in bulletins. How thankful we are for these new members and for their sponsors. If you are interested in joining Kimball Memorial, please speak with the pastor...and this will be arranged!

KEYBOARD PROGRAM OF SACRED MUSIC

November 13th @ 4pm Our organist and choir director Don Simmons will be presenting a program of sacred piano and organ music on Sunday afternoon, November 13th at 4:00pm. Selections of hymns, spirituals, and praise songs will be included in the program along with classical organ music. Hymns will include "Holy, Holy, Holy" and "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee". Also included will be the praise song "O Lord, Our Lord How Majestic is Your Name", and the spiritual "His Eye is on the Sparrow". Don will be joined by Valerie Frank who will sing Mozart's "Alleluia". Valerie is a member of the Piedmont Community Chorus for which Don serves as the accompanist. In addition, Randy Childers, the director of the Piedmont Singing Men will present a vocal selection.

Preschool News We have been very busy in the preschool! The children are making new friends and learning all about are Bible stories

The themes for the month are, Fall, Pumpkins, and Apples. Bible Themes for the month are, Zacchaeus, The Light of the World, Manna Quail Water, and The Pharaohs Dream. Carey Swanner, Preschool Director

Thanks and Thanksgiving Hosted by

KMLC Youth November 20th after church!

Join the Kimball Youth in Giving Thanks with the Thanks and

Thanksgiving banquet on Nov. 20th after the service. We will be serving Ham, Mashed

Potatoes, Yams, Green Beans, Rolls and Pie.

Tea and Coffee will also be provided.

A freewill donation will be taken up to go toward the Youth Mission Fund, which helps us to take trips, go to camp, helps with the

ELCA Youth Gathering or for monthly youth gatherings.

CCM Thanksgiving Bags

The Youth and Outreach teams are sponsoring the CCM Thanksgiving bags. Leaves will be posted on the “Because of You” board on the

ramp and can be picked up starting this weekend. All items will need to be returned by

J.O.Y. GROUP The next J.O.Y. Group event will be on Wednesday, November 9th. We will meet at the church at 10:15 am to go to Childress Vineyards in Lexington for lunch.

Our next blood drive is Wednesday, Nov.2nd in the Fellowship Hall from 4:00-7:00. Anyone who donated at

the last blood drive is eligible to donate be-cause you can donate whole blood every 56 days :) The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is an independent, locally managed, non-profit community blood center. They are the primary blood supplier to the region’s patients and hos-pitals. ~ 1 in 7 people entering the hospital need blood. ~ Every 2 seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. ~ Less than 10 percent of the population that is eligible do donate does so. Please consider donating. The pain is temporary, but the gift can last a lifetime… A sign-up sheet will be posted outside of the youth room or contact Doris Teumer at dmte-umer@yahoo.com or sign up on line at www.cbcc.us **We had a number of folks who could not donate due to low hemoglobin levels. Be sure to eat iron rich foods two weeks prior to donat-ing blood. Drink plenty of water too! Upcoming Blood Drives in 2017 – • January 4 th • March 8 th

Salvation Army Angel Tree Coming in December, we will

participate in the Salvation Army Angel Tree, we will have 20

Angels on the tree and hope you can help us, help our neighbors in need. The Angel Tree will be upstairs outside the worship space starting at

the end of Nov.

“To the congregation of Kimball Memorial in the name of the Christ, thank you. The dust has settled and I am serving in my next interim as Friel continues to serve as “family nanny.” We did not adequately thank you for the gifts we received on our last Sunday. We will never forget the Lutheran World Relief donations toward the purchase of lambs and clean water. My paternal grandmother is smiling from ear to ear! Thank you for the worship materials that will help me in my new call and for the photographs that adorn my desk. The photos of the worship space and the church steeple are reminders of the joy and the fellowship Friel and I experienced at Kimball. Our catered luncheon was truly a delicious AMEN! You will always be only a prayer away from our thoughts! We will continue to pray for you in your new journey with Pastor Futterer.
