KINDERGARTEN HOME READING PROGRAM Dear Kindergarten parents, Our Kindergarten home reading program will start on Monday, September 10 th . Every day we will send a book home for you to read with your child and you will record the book that you read in the reading log provided. You may also record books you read from home or the library! The more practice your child has with reading, the better they will be! Please leave this reading log in your child’s homework folder and send it to school every morning in the homework folder as well. In the “comments” section of the reading log, please include comments about which difficult words your child was able to sound out without help, which words they had trouble with, or any information that would be useful to help us work with your child to improve their reading skills. You may even want to mention what your child likes to read about ex. Dinosaurs or animals! If you receive the same book two times, it is to help your child become more fluent with the words in that book. Reading a book several times can help improve word recognition, fluency and can make the child feel good about knowing a book so well! Please remember to bring your homework folder to school every day with the reading log so that we can read your comments. Please check the homework folder for notes from the teacher! It is very important for your child to practice reading at home daily so that they have a strong start with their learning! Being able to read opens up many learning opportunities for them! Thank you for being part of your child’s literacy learning! Miss Montero
