without experience is just

information. At King, we take

that sentiment very seriously.

looking for the answers.

Everything we do is geared to a

of learning. Your quest

for knowledge begins here.

the capstone projectYour time at King will culminate with our distinctive senior capstone

course, which brings together students from different disciplines. As a

This will be a fun opportunity to share the perspectives and experiences

you’ve gained over the past four years with a group of your peers.

are a dedicated group holding high distinctions in their

respective fields. They each have exceptional professional—as well as personal—

experiences to share.

Don’t be surprised when your professor provides his or her home and cell phone

numbers. Yes, they’re that eager to assist and advise. Their approach to teaching relies

not so much on memorization and testing, as on challenging you to find the answers for yourself.

As you begin this journey, don’t be afraid to

ask for guidance along the way. You will have

a student liaison to lend

support with questions related to registration

and records, student affairs, billing, financial

aid, and information technology. If you need help with schedule changes, housing,

payment plans, or even network account

creation throughout the year, your student

liaison is there to offer assistance.

In addition to working with your student

liaison during your entire time at King College,

you will also work with your major advisor. Your major advisor will offer

guidance related to decisions regarding cur-

ricular choices, internships, graduate school

options, and career planning, as well as provide

King offers more off-campus opportunities than most schools our size.

Every year, more than a quarter of our traditional undergraduate

students travel off campus with professors and fellow students for

study abroad, missions, and community service activities.

Be engaged in thought-provoking discussions.

Be exposed to intriguing debates.

Be introduced to inspiring people and places.

Recent students have seen the world by:

• Spending a month in the Tuscan city of Montepulciano, Italy, to study language, art, culture, and ancient history

• Assisting with leadership training, youth camps, and service ministry in Kenya and Tanzania

• Men’s soccer coach, Matthew Lavinder, led a group of students and faculty on a visit to the (Martin Luther) King Center, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and a long- term rehabilitation program for the homeless in Atlanta, Georgia, where they were encouraged to actively participate in social change.

• Attending the “Global Citizenship: America and the World” program at the prestigious Salzburg Global Seminar in Austria

King students love getting out and getting involved. Whether it’s a campus outing,

snowboarding in the mountains, performing in our popular “Sing for Your Books” event,

or joining a team and “working the race” at Bristol’s NASCAR Motor Speedway—it’s

practically a given that you’ll be involved in many things while at King.

The Student Life and Activities Committee at King (SLACK) and the Student

Government Association (SGA) keep so much going on around campus— you’ll have

more to do than time to do it.

Ask any student at King what life is like, and you’ll probably hear

words like welcoming , peaceful, unique, fun, and

extraordinarily friendly.

When you visit King College, be sure to check

out the Dining Hall and the King’s Den. Many

schools say their food is good. However, at

King, it’s really true. The Dining Hall— a mini

food mall, actually — is open seven days a week

and is where you’ll eat most of your regular

meals. The King’s Den is a popular late night

study spot and hangout. Grab a quick snack,

drink, or light meal on your way to class, the

mission tripsOpportunities to serve others and be a witness for

Christ don’t end when you leave campus. As a King student, you

King is a faith-based institution where you are

free to explore your spirituality, and we give

you the space to do so on your own terms.

One way of doing this is through Chapel, Con-

vocation, and Service (CCS). You’ll complete

14 credits of CCS per semester toward your

degree—and you have the freedom to choose

how you reflect upon, and develop your per-

sonal faith. You can focus on one or a mixture

of the three basic areas:

• Chapel is a brief Wednesday session of

community worship.

• Convocation, known as the Buechner

Lecture Series, features significant speakers

from all walks of life who give you weekly

insight into a broad range of issues.

Recent speakers include:

— Thomas Lynch: famed essayist, poet and funeral director — Morten Lauridsen: grammy-nominated composer — Bert Bertelkamp: UT Vols radio color analyst — William P. Young: author of critically acclaimed novel, The Shack

• Service to others can take almost any form

including Habitat for Humanity, Coats for

Kids, and Operation Christmas Child.

“Don’t trust your first impressions of people. Get to know them and try to learn from them.”

growth, the access to faculty and resources, career

networking, and leadership opportunities — all backed

by highly regarded degrees and national rankings,

the value of a King College education becomes obvious.
