ASK ANNUAL STUDIO TOUR

A Whitchurch-Stouffville com-pany will have to flush $500 in fines after for stealing water from a King Township hydrant last year in the first case of the Township pursuing a case of water theft through the courts.

Ontario Hydro Vac pleaded guilty to the water theft in a New-market courtroom last week. It faced a fine that ranged from $100 all the way up to $50,000.

“We take the issue of water theft extremely seriously,” said Kathryn Moyle, Township Clerk and Direc-tor of Clerks and By-law. “It poses a serious health and safety risk and costs the municipality lost reve-

nue.”King Township staff noticed that

somebody had illegally hooked up to a hydrant on Melrose Avenue in King City on Oct. 29, 2015. They took a picture of the hookup, including the truck being used. That enabled

by-law officers to investigate and eventually lay a charge of using a municipal hydrant without a per-mit.

King is asking people to contact the municipality if they see suspi-cious activity around fire hydrants.

John Vandenberg, King Township’s water and wastewater compliance engineering technolo-gist, said there are negative impacts to water system due to illegal hook-ups: Contamination of the drinking water through pressure reduction or a back siphonage event.Failure of hydrant(s) in fire situations due to damage caused by unauthorized access. Overall damage to municipal water infrastructure through improper operation of the hydrant. Cost to the municipality due to lost revenue from the stolen water.

They’ve heard from pros-ecutors, police officers and ministry corrections officials and now it was time to hear from those who house high-risk offenders.

The King Township Mayor’s Task Force on High-Risk and Dangerous Offenders, formed in the wake of last December’s arrival in Schomberg of high-risk offender Keith Theodore Constantin at a group home, heard from senior officials last Thursday from the organiza-tion in charge of Constantin’s group home.

Christian Horizons, which manages the home where Con-stantin lives, sent vice-presi-dent of operations Allan Mills and Claudine Cousins, district executive director, to speak to the task force, made up of four citizen volunteers and chaired by Nobleton Councillor David Boyd. Mayor Steve Pellegrini also sits on the task force as an ex-officio member.

York Regional Police are still investigating a serious two-vehicle collision that closed Metro Road at Varney Road in Keswick late Sun-day afternoon.

All four elderly occupants of a Honda Civic travelling on Metro Road were sent to hospital after collid-ing in the intersec-tion with a Chevy Equinox at around 5:30 p.m., accord-ing to police.

An 80-year-old King resident, who was a passenger in the Honda, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The male driver, 74, of the Honda, also from King, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Two female passengers in the Honda, from King, age 67 and 70, were taken to hospital, where they remained as of Monday afternoon.

The three adult occupants of the Chevy were taken to hospital and released.

The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police are being asked to come forward.

In his new sculpture, The Bow, unveiled at the 11th annual Arts Society King Studio Tour Saturday, artist Gordon Becker has captured the double meaning of the word.

“She is taking a bow and also the sweeping arcs, which are reflected throughout the whole piece from every single angle, are like a bow being drawn. That creates enor-mous tension. When you pull a bow back, the thing is just loaded with tension ready to fly,” he said.

“That is part of the theme of this that exists, the phenomenal tension that is required for her to move for-ward to her next move. That is part for my approach to carving dancers. They essentially push themselves to the absolute limit of human endea-vour and the least I can do is reflect that in how much effort I put into portraying them.”

Becker’s sculptures, on display at the studio of Grazyna Tonkiel, the studio tour chair, were inspired by dancers who have performed in Toronto.

“These are not real portraits, they are more inspirations and I am inspired by them,” he said.

“I can’t dance my way out of a paper bag. I have great big, flat feet. I have a laughable sense of rhythm. But I can make the tools dance in my hand. That’s the link.”

Becker said he is pleased to be participating in the annual art stu-dio tour, being held at more than 15 locations in King Township Satur-day and Sunday.

What started with a handful of participants has grown into one of King’s most anticipated annual events, featuring studios in King City, Nobleton, Schomberg as well as other areas of the township.

Becker also unveiled a second new sculpture called Three in a Boat with the figures of Mona Lisa

by Leonardo Da Vinci, Primavera by Sandro Botticelli and a char-acter created by Becker called the Acquisitor or the taker.

The sculpture is a commentary on the precarious times in which we live.

“We are basically on not only a leaky boat but a boat that doesn’t even have a shell, it’s a skeleton,” Becker said.

“We’ve been on it for a long time. We’ve been playing the game for a long, long time. Our vanities have been driving us.”

Becker uses wood for most of his sculptures.

“I love wood. It’s a living sub-stance, it’s unpredictable. I want something that is going to throw curves at me, that I’m going to be challenged by. Wood makes that happen,” he said.

“It’s like reading a new author that you’ve never seen before or

listening to a brand new piece of music. You think ‘Oh my God, what are those notes, that’s fantastic.’ That’s part of my process. I’m listen-ing and reading the wood and there are all kinds of unexpected things that happen and I like that.”

The tour has brought together 38 artists this year, half from King and half from outside the township, Tonkiel said.

The event is an enriching envi-ronment to bring artists and art lovers together, she said.

“Art elevates the dusts of every day life,” she said.

“It can be dusty and hectic and art elevates your spirit and elevates your mood.”

Over at the King Heritage and Cultural Centre, Irene Lowe, a Ket-tleby amateur photographer who has attended several tours over the years, was admiring paintings by Richmond Hill artist Darlene Win-

field.“I came out to see what photog-

raphers were exhibiting but also to see all the other art. A lovely day’s outing to see what’s going on,” she said.

“It’s enlightening and encour-ages you to get involved and go out and do whatever you like to do. It’s inspiring. It definitely lifts your spirits, especially on a sunny day. It’s lovely.”

Teri Hastings, executive director of Arts Society King, agreed.

“I’m incredibly proud of our Arts Society King artists,” she said.

“I’m also inspired and amazed at the level of talent and how they work hand-in-hand with Arts Soci-ety King to enrich King Township through arts for all.”

News, or ads disguised as media releases?

ost journalists get hundreds of press releases and “advi-sories” every week and most aren’t rel-

evant to the readership they serve. But some have slick or com-

pelling headlines that just scream out to be read.

“Worried work is making you sick? You’re not alone” — is a press release from a company that markets vitamins. The premise of the “news” release — and I use the term news loosely — is that if you’re taking enough of the right vitamins, you’ll feel perky and energetic and be a better worker.

How about this one: “Reading glasses make some Canadians feel old, according to survey”.

This news release was from one of those laser eye surgery companies, that — not surpris-ingly — did a survey which found that 26 per cent of Canadians feel old when they wear glasses; and 21 per cent would agree to pack on five more pounds if it meant they could discard their reading glasses. (Huh, is that even a real-istic option? How did they pose that question in their survey?)

Then there are the news release headlines you have to read several times to figure out what is being suggested. Try this: “Eighty-eight per cent of Cana-dian minimum-wage earners do not live in low-income house-holds”.

This was a serious news col-umn about the pros and cons of raising the minimum wage, stat-ing that because most minimum -wager earners don’t live in low-income housing, it will do little to reduce poverty. But personally, I found the headline hard to wrap my head around.

Try this disguised ad for retire-ment planning services from a Canadian bank: “What will you do with 2,000 hours a year when you retire?”

I loved that one. I sat day-dreaming looking out my office window ... let me consider that rather fun question ... hmmm, gardening, window shopping,

reading, walking, communicating with relatives I promise to stay in better touch with every Christmas ... the list is endless.

Here’s another release from a different Canadian banking estab-lishment: “Home ownership is a priority for millenials: poll”.

Well, duh, of course it is, both my own millenials would love to own their own home, but neither is remotely close to achieving that dream.

My daughter rents a rather beat-up, drafty house in rural Peel with her boyfriend and two dogs. The two of them are barely mak-ing ends meet and putting gro-ceries on the table, never mind saving for a downpayment for a home of their own.

My son just turned 24 last week, and instead of looking ahead at life with optimism, he’s worried about an artificial deadline he has imposed on himself.

You see, he was hoping that by age 25, he’d have a good career and enough money to move out of his parents’ basement into an apartment or townhouse he’d rent with some friends.

Unfortunately, one year away from his great “freedom 25,” he doesn’t see that as a realistic goal.

But here’s this week’s fav head-line: “Work email is a waste, 9 per cent of the time, execs say”.

What company benefits from this survey, you ask? A staffing agency; offering six “tips” to man-age your email overload.

I’m betting the underlying mes-sage of the release is: everyone should hire a secretary or temp person to manage their emails.

Any takers out there?

M You have to feel great for Alex Pietrangelo. The big, rangy King

City defenceman can feel some sense of relief and accomplishment that his team, the St. Louis Blues, has lifted the 800-pound gorilla off its back and won an NHL playoff series.

It’s especially gratifying the Blues beat the mighty, Stanley-Cup defending Chi-cago Blackhawks 3-2 Mon-day night. It took the full seven games but St. Louis did the trick after losing to the Blackhawks in the play-offs in 2013, when Chicago won the cup. St. Louis were also bounced out in 2012 and 2014 by eventual cup winners Los Angeles.

Last year, it was an igno-minious first-round defeat to Minnesota, which left some wondering if St. Louis, a regular-season power-house, would EVER win a playoff series.

They did in fact win one series, once upon a time, back in 2012, beating San Jose in five games in the first round in Pietrangelo’s sophomore season. Then, the Kings swept them in the second round on the way to the cup.

Maybe this is St. Louis’s year but now they face the solid and improving Dallas Stars. It won’t be easy as Dal-las has home-ice advantage.

Pietrangelo has won just about everything except a Stanley Cup, despite being just 26.

He is the best defence-

man on the Blues, leads the team in ice time, plays on the powerplay and penalty kill and is key to almost everything they do. He is a perennial all-star, Norris tro-phy contender and lock for Team Canada.

He has an Olympic gold medal, a World Junior gold medal, was chosen best defenceman at the world juniors and just needs that Stanley Cup ring to com-plete his collection.

But there are three rounds to go and many say the Stan-ley Cup, which requires 16 wins and four rounds of bru-tal, bruising competition is the toughest trophy to win in all of team sports.

Here’s hoping Alex Pietrangelo can tell us if that’s true in about six weeks time.

Don’t get into an argu-ment with King Township’s Country Day School stu-dents Natalie Ganzhorn or Olivia Railton.

You’re bound to lose. The Aurora teenagers

and lifelong friends are ace debaters who just finished first and second at the 28th annual World Individual and Public Speaking Cham-pionship in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

They beat out some 100 high school students from 10 countries at the event, held at Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh from March 30-April 4. Veteran debat-ers and speakers, this was Ganzhorn’s fourth world championship and Railton’s second.

Both girls were the only students to qualify in all four events: impromptu speak-ing, parliamentary debat-ing, interpretive reading and persuasive speaking. They took on controversial issues like female genital mutila-tion and cyberterrorism.

“There’s a lot of prepa-ration involved, it’s a pretty intense four or five days of competition with some of the best schools in the world,” said CDS teacher Kerstin Wyndham-West.

Ganzhorn, who turns 18 next week, said the event was, “so fun. It’s always a

really exciting tournament. You meet old friends and new friends from really interesting places.”

A student at CDS since Grade 5, the Grade 12 stu-dent is interested in per-forming and acting, but also loves public speaking, debating, politics and world issues.

She plans to take a dou-ble major in international relations and political sci-ence at Western University in London next year and wants to get into interna-tional law eventually. “I’d also like to get into acting so I don’t know which path I’m going to take,” she said.

Railton, 16, and in Grade 11, said the event was “fan-tastic. It was amazing to see all my friends again.”

She said she likes debat-ing and public speaking because it helps her become “a lot more knowledgeable about global affairs and issues in a way that was never accessible to me in any other format.”

She said she is apply-ing to schools in the UK for direct entry law and the U.S. for social sciences and international relations.

“I’m going to Harvard this weekend to talk to the vice-president of recruitment for their debate team.”

She said she’s looking at corporate, international or human rights law as a career.

Mayor Steve Pellegrini was in full booster mode as he introduced his latest tool to promote the township: a slick new video.

The mayor unveiled the eight-minute clip at his annual Chamber of Com-merce lunch last Thursday at Nobleton Lakes Golf Club.

More than a hundred guests watched the clip filled with images of King Township businesses, scen-ery, facts, figures and infor-mation. It’s all presented in a professional, smooth style that shows off the best the township has to offer.

Pellegrini was effusive in his praise of the video.

“I’m sure anyone who

saw that would love to live and work here,” he said after it concluded. “We’ve raised the bar a little bit about what’s going on in King.”

He made a brief speech about what the township has done to help businesses including:

• businesses can choose to be open 363 days a year (other than Christmas Day and Easter);

• $40,000 is available to

local businesses to help them improve;

• three new Community Investment Profiles, pro-duced by the township, are full of details about King City, Schomberg and Nobleton, and separately break down by village items, such as average home price, growth forecasts, median house-hold income, new business starts, locations, etc.

He also encouraged business leaders to com-municate their needs with the township and to take advantage of any programs offered.

considerable length in general terms about staffing, employ-ee qualifications, contractur-al and licensing operations and how Christian Horizons meets all its obligations.

They took questions in a freewheeling discussion from members of the panel who were instructed at one point by Boyd to keep away from the specific issue of Constan-tin and remain focused on how Christian Horizons deals in general with its clients.

Mills and Cousins were joined by David Hingsburger, director of clinical and educa-tional services for Vita Com-munity Living Services and Mens Sana Families for Men-tal Health and Emily Romita, Vita’s director of program ser-vices and compliance.

Mills explained Christian Horizons supports 2,000 peo-ple who have developmental disabilities across Ontario and Saskatchewan and employs 3,000 people.

“We are the largest orga-nization in Canada that sup-ports people with a develop-mental disability,” Mills said.

The non-profit organiza-tions (Christian Horizons and Vita) are funded by the Minis-

try of Community and Social Services. Christian Horizons staffs group homes of up to six people who live togeth-er in local communities, in addition to other services it provides.

Quizzed about how a high-risk offender like Constantin might wind up in Schomberg, a clue was provided by Chris-tian Horizons.

It was revealed Mackenzie Health needed to be a part of the process for treatment.

“We wanted to be within the catchment area of our clinical partner, Mackenzie Health… we’re working in partnership with Macken-zie Health and we wanted to find a site that probation and police services could support. So that is how we came to King,” Mills said in reference to Constantin.

Cousins assured taskforce members the Schomberg group home was inspected thoroughly in advance of the public being notified that Constantin was here.

“The YRP high-risk unit came out and looked at the house, probation was there, John Boothby (head of the high-risk police unit) was there, just to make sure this fit in as a good location; as we

were looking, they screened the location (before Constan-tin arrived)” said Cousins.

She said safety of the public, home staff and of the high-risk offender are all par-amount.

Mills and Cousins empha-size ministry officials do pick a random sample of homes to inspect and the site must pass 280 standards on an annual test.

“It could include some-thing as simple as the water cannot exceed 49 Celsius. If it exceeds it, it needs to be fixed right now,” Mills said.

Hingsburger pointed out that even before a site is selected for a client (or mem-ber), “we have to look at what are we looking for and that will select out a whole pile of different places, because they simply aren’t suitable; of those places that are suitable, what is the best fit, do we have access to treatment and appropriate staffing.”

The next meeting of the task force is Thursday, May 19, at 6 p.m. at Nobleton Pub-lic Library. Meetings are open to the public.

So, my dream of one day becoming a fighter pilot was dashed today — by one of the new rides at Canada’s Wonderland.

As it turns out, I don’t pos-sess the skill — or the iron stomach — needed to pull off a single barrel roll, at least not while whipping around in circles 41 metres above the ground on Skyhawk.

Granted, it’s not all that easy.

First off, you have to get the wings flapping in oppo-site directions at the right pace so the plane starts swinging. Then, at just the right time, you must shift your weight to start it rotat-ing.

Finally, you’re supposed to hold the wings steady, or so I was told — I never reached that point.

I wasn’t alone.Troyce Jaatinen, who was

among a group of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets from

Midland who got the first crack at the ride, struggled too.

But he still enjoyed it enough to take another spin.

“It was fun,” Jaatinen,14, said. “(The best part) was probably the flipping.”

Duhin Nanda, however, proved he has the right stuff.

In his second attempt, he spun full-circle an astonish-ing 59 times, shattering the previous record of 41 set by an employee of the amuse-ment park.

“It was really fun,” said Nanda, an on-air correspon-dent for YTV. “I did it the first time and I was like ‘How do people spin on this?’ But it was just finding that tech-nique. I just did it exactly as they explained it to me. After I got my first spin… I just held it and it kept going.”

Cheers erupted when his number of spins — or inver-sions as they call them — was announced.

The ride is equipped with a counter that tracks exactly

how many rotations each pilot completes, so riders can keep score.

Skyhawk is one of two rides Canada’s Wonderland launched for its 35th anni-versary year.

The other is the more family friendly Flying Eagles, which features two-person planes riders control as they glide through the sky at 8.5 metres high.

“Going into our 35th anniversary, we wanted to make sure we’re doing things for families … and also for the thrill-seekers,” said Dave Phillips, vice-president of marketing and sales at Cana-da’s Wonderland. “So, as part of our 35th birthday, (adding two new rides) was a great way to provide all our guests with something for thrills. “

The amusement park officially opens for the sea-son May 1.

Staff reporter Adam Martin-Robbins checked out the Skyhawk ride at Canada’s Wonder-land on Thursday. The amusement park offi-cially opens for the sea-son on Sunday.

Moving Forward TogetherSouthlake’s Commitment to Community Engagement

THERE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT SEEING LONG STANdINGSouthlake volunteer Marjorie Brewster help children diagnosed with cancer smile when they come tothe clinic for treatment. Each child gets a toy from Marjorie and they learn that Southlake is all aboutcaring for each other. These moments define who we are. We’re here for you and your loved onesto celebrate moments of joy and we’re here to help you through some of life’s challenges. Everydayour hospital staff, physicians, and volunteers go the extra mile to help through individual acts ofcompassion, empathy and support.

LOOKING FORWARd, WE ARE COMMITTEd TO THE CONTINUEdrenewal of hospital equipment needs as well as key infrastructure projects. These projects include theconstruction of a 10-bed residential hospice, plans to enhance our mental health program through theaddition of twelve new in-patient beds, the renewal of our cardiac catheterization labs and plans forthe redevelopment of our operating rooms. These projects will further strengthen our ability to provideour community with the care that all of us expect and deserve. But we need your help now morethan ever before. Major projects are only partially funded by the government and must rely heavily onthe community to make up the difference. We look forward to continuing to work together with ourcommunity to ensure that Southlake has what it needs to achieve the ultimate patient experience.

AS A TEAMWE HAVEWORKEd VERY HARd OVER THE PAST YEARSto be a leader in healthcare funding reform while focusing on the quality of our clinical programs. Everyfour years Southlake participates in an accreditation process with Accreditation Canada, an independentnational organization that champions patient safety and quality. In 2012 Southlake achieved ExemplaryStanding and in March this year Southlake again achieved Exemplary Standing, awarded to less than16 percent of Canadian healthcare organizations that demonstrate rigorous adherence to over twothousand best practices in healthcare delivery. This is a tremendous achievement for our hospitalthat demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement and the results of collaborativeteamwork.

SPRING ALSO PROVIdES SOME FUN ANd EXCITING WAYS TOget involved with Southlake. Sunday May 1, 2016, Southlake is hosting its annual Run or Walk forSouthlake. We hope that you can join us for this wonderful morning of fun and fitness that is widelysupported by our community and staff.

THE HOSPITAL ANd THE FOUNdATION BOARdS HAVE WORKEdtirelessly to redefine and strengthen our commitment to working together to meet the needs of ourcommunity. Together, we have implemented a new Framework for Philanthropy at Southlake and aShared Leadership Model to ensure we stay in sync. Following an extensive review process, the newframeworks incorporate the best management and governance practices in healthcare philanthropyand healthcare delivery to ensure we are able to achieve our commitment to patients, their families andour community. We need your help to achieve the vision for our Hospital and we are very appreciativeof the support of our donors and community.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT ANd YOURgenerous donations; it is what drives us to continue to push the envelope and empower our clinicalteams to deliver world-class care close to home. We are very excited to work together with ourcommunity to ensure that Southlake continues to be at the forefront of healthcare delivery and buildsits capacity to meet the future needs of our community.

The recent openings of a new fourth radiation treatment machine in our CancerCentre as well as the new heart rhythm interventional suites represent great achievements for ourhospital. Additionally, the completion of our diagnostic imaging campaign provided funding for a newinterventional radiology suite and the planned installation of a new MRI. n his quiet way, Malcolm Gra-ham could light up a room with his smile and had a way of making anyone he spent time with feel special.

Malcolm died at the age of 68 on March 25 at Southlake Regional Health Centre from complications three weeks after suffering a heart attack.

The Grahams came to Newmar-ket in 1973, shortly after Malcolm graduated from Western Univer-sity and a chartered accountant apprentice program with Pricewa-terhouse in Toronto.

They moved to town when Malcolm was offered a job with accounting firm Cossar, Hector and Payne on Main Street.

They did have a tie to New-market since his wife Mary Beth’s parents, Gordon and Helen Ough, were born and raised in town and her grandfather, Jack Nesbitt, had been the mayor in the mid-1920s and again in the early 1930s.

Malcolm and Mary Beth met in Blenheim District High School near Chatham when he was in Grade 11 and she was in Grade 9.

It was love at first sight.“We met in high school and

dated and that was it,” Mary Beth laughed.

“He was very handsome, a fabulous smile, very athletic, just a nice guy. I don’t think you’d find

anybody that would say anything negative about Malcolm. He was one of those people, very giving in a quiet way, but always had time for people. Didn’t matter if it was business-wise or friends or neigh-bours. Just in a quiet way, he would be there.”

They married on Oct. 29, 1966 while Malcolm was still at Western.

The couple, parents of sons John and Jeff, would have celebrat-ed their 50th anniversary this fall.

When they first moved to New-market, Malcolm got involved with the Lion’s Club.

In 1975, he and some friends founded the York North Racquet Club, a squash club that raised the hackles of some for its men’s

Vale, Colorado every December.Despite the pressure of work,

from which he never retired, Mal-colm loved spending time with family and friends at the cottage they have had in southwestern Ontario since 1977.

“That was a big point for all of our family. It was always a very special place for everybody,” Mary Beth said.

The whole family, including John and his wife, Connie, and their children, Mackenzie, Ireland, Conner and Liam, and Jeff and his wife, Susan, and their children, Georgia and Jack, loved spending time at the cottage.

“Family was huge (to Malcolm). I just think he was very proud of what all of them have achieved,” Mary Beth said.

“Particularly, for the grandchil-dren, I think (the cottage) is a fun place to be, you’re that next gen-eration. He enjoyed them all. He loved having them around, loved having them at the cottage. Lots of boating, lots of swimming, lots of sailing. It was wonderful, really. A lot of family time. Malcolm worked really hard, but we had some real quality family time. Those are good memories.”

Sadly, Jeff died six years ago at the age of 40 of a brain tumour after being diagnosed 12 years earlier.

only policy.“There were a lot of women

who were not very happy with that group, not happy at all. It didn’t bother me, but there were several others that were not too happy about it,” Mary Beth said.

“It was a group of guys, there were some professional people and all kinds of great guys. They just decided they needed something (for men).”

Initially, Malcolm, who would go on to establish accounting firm Bateman, Graham, Fitzpatrick on Davis Drive, was an avid squash player, but his interest waned as work demands grew.

He also looked forward to an annual ski vacation with friends to

Brain Tumour Foundation of Cana-da, helping to raise about $100,000 over many years.

When Jeff died, his flag football league started a memorial golf tournament in his honour, a ven-ture the family helped support.

Initially, proceeds from the tournament went to the brain foundation. For the last three years, it has raised about $200,000 for the hospice at Southlake Regional Health Centre.

“Those kinds of things were really important to Malcolm. You wouldn’t find him out there being the big cheerleader saying, ‘Hey look at us, what we’re doing’,” Mary Beth said.

“It was always just in a very quiet way. It was huge for him to be giving back.”

Malcolm will be missed by fam-ily, friends, neighbours and clients, Mary Beth said.

“He was probably one of the most generous people I’ve ever met. Very kind. Always put other people ahead of himself. Even at the office, if people came in with even just the smallest problem, it didn’t matter. He would take just as much time with that person as he would with someone with a very complicated problem. Everybody felt he was giving his all,” she said.

“And he had the most wonder-ful smile. It just made everyone else smile. He could just light up a room with that smile.”

Malcolm Graham

“Adored by children, universally respected and an inspiration to her peers, Mrs. McCluskey was a tireless volunteer, quick to defl ect the praise heaped on her.”
