KING SOLOMON ACADEMY 6 MARCH 2015 PAGE 1 Dear parents/carers, I hope that all of you have had a good week. We’re already a couple of weeks into Spring 2 and it really won’t be long before we’re all waving goodbye to each other for the Easter holidays! We need to make sure that we make every single minute of the next four weeks count – let’s make sure that our children are at school every day, and let’s make sure that they are at school on time! So much learning hap- pens between 08:30 and 08:45, it’s vital that you’re able to be at school just before 08:30. In between all that’s been going on this week, we’ve been thinking and talking about gratitude, and the value of gratitude. I think I’ve mentioned before that it’s a funny old thing, gratitude, as not only is it good manners to be grateful, but it also has a number of health and personal benefits! I thought I’d remind you of a few this week, as well as give you the opportunity both to reflect on things you have to be grateful for, and show some gratitude in a fun and practical way. 1. Gratitude improves our mental health – if we focus on what we’re grateful for, we’re less likely to be depressed by the problems in our lives. 2. Students who are grateful achieve greater results – again, if we’re focussed on what we can do rather than what we cannot, it develops a positive mindset! 3. Grateful people have more friends, as they’re more likely to be helpful and kind to others 4. Grateful people sleep better – apparently studies indicate that people who reflect on things they are thankful for before sleeping, sleep more deeply! 5. Grateful people are less likely to have heart issues – increased gratitude means decreased stress, and therefore less risk of heart problems. Who knew? 6. Our immune systems are stronger if we’re grateful – the optimism in our hormones affects our immune system positively. I think that these are all fantastic reasons to be grateful, and I intend to reflect this evening on what things I have to be grateful for, I could do with the sleep! On a serious note, I thought that we could all begin expressing our gratitude by contributing to an Ark twitter feature that is running at the moment. There’s a photograph below as an example, but essentially all we’re doing is posting a tweet that says “#teachersmake….” And fill in the blanks as you see fit, along with a photograph! It’s a super opportunity to think of something we’re grateful for, and to let our teachers know just how much we appreciate them. I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend, and look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday. Mr Molver. Message from Mr Molver NEWSLETTER

EVEN A CHILD CAN BE AN AUTHOR

Article by Fatima Aljaff and Mayss Zamzam

On Wednesday 4th March, a combination of year 5 and 6 pupils represented our school in a second tournament in Football and very fortunately, KSA’s A Team won! The match was in Lesson Green and our representatives were Mateusz Wybranowski, Cesare Merino, Khalid Dovie, Hussein El-Ha-jmoussa, Mounir Zreik, Sodbilegt Ochirbat (YR6) and Yusef Binouf and Andi (YR5). Match 1ended with two excellent goals from Khalid, resulting in us winning 2-0 to Christ Church Bentick. Match 2 resulted in two fantastic goals scored by Cesare. We won 2-0 to Hampdengurney and in the third match the score ended in a draw 0-0.

Tune in next week to find out how the girls do in their match.

This Friday, Miss Sirota will be judging the spring auditions. Hopefully before the spring concert, she will be able to choose the pupils will be peform solos in the concert. Everyone is certain that the pupils will be amazing, they just need to make sure they have rehearsed their piece and are ready for the auditions. Additional auditions will be held on Wednesday the 11th for some year 6 pupils.

Good luck to everyone.

KSA’s first published authors! On Thursday 5th March, Year 6 took part in a book launch! McKenzie and Co (the company who transformed our writing) made a book consisting of work, written by last year’s, Year 5 pupils. A number of people from McKenzie and Co came to work with the pupils to help them write about their names, what it would be like to be an object or animal. They also helped them develop their drawing skills. Following that, the pupils had the opportunity to present their work to the class. We think that all the work used was astonishing. Well done to all the pupils involved.

CRACK! The unstable egg was forced to crack into a sizzling pan. Meanwhile Tyson woke up with a dry milk moustache that made him dread the day even more, for it was Monday. As he dragged himself downstairs, he recognised the aroma of eggs. He walked into the kitchen and took a bite of his omelette. "Mother — you have given me some atrocious food!" His mother frowned and Tyson went back upstairs. Then the grumbling came: "Tyson, come out!" He went out and was greeted by a body made of eggs. Eggs... E-EGGS! The Egg Monster grabbed Tyson and ran to the mountains. It chucked Tyson in a machine and closed the doors. "Power on" it cackled as Tyson stood there, frozen with fear. All he could smell was egg, strange as the machine was made of steel. Wait a minute — he realised with horror, it was him; he was turning into an egg. He acted quickly — kicking through the rapidly forming egg shell around him he faced the Egg Monster with a domestic utensil of peril — the frying pan. Ha! Boom, crash and sizzle. The monster was smashed and turned into an omelette.

If Tyson ate it, would it be better than his mother's...?eggs

BOTTLE TOPS

We are collecting hundreds of plastic bottle tops for a big outdoor art project. They can be any size, shape or colour and can be put in the postbox near Ms Francis’ office.

Do you know who the Super Six are? If not, then by the end of this story you will know them very well.

The super six team are:

Samantha (Sam), she is a tom boy and she loves sports. She is very brave and adventurous. She has short hair and is tall. She is eleven years old. No one can boss her around. Sam has a dog called Luna, who is a wolf dog. The name Luna means moon. Luna is a very brave dog and is goodhearted. She loves Sam to bits and cannot live without her. She is more like a sister than a pet to Sam. Luna has white fur and has blue eyes. Lisa is the good girl who never gets into trouble. Everyone likes Lisa because she is just perfect. She is very cute and always plaits her hair into two pony tails. She is ten years old. Lisa loves drawing and art. She is very creative. Lisa's brother is Fredrick (Freddy.) Freddy is very mischevious and bad behaved. He always gets into trouble at school. He is twelve years old and he loves football. He supports Manchester United. Louisa is the girly girl of the team. She always fusses over small things and hates getting dirty. She absolutely hates sports. She has long, blonde hair and always cares about her looks. Louisa's brother is called Jacob. They are twins and are both eleven years old. Jacob is the brains of the Super Six. He is very intelligent and loves maths and science. He is very good at cracking really difficult codes. He does not get on with his sister at all. They are nothing alike. Jacob's nick name is brainy! Now you have met the Super Six! The super six are all best friends and they have known each-other for their whole life.

One day, the Super Six all decide to go camping in the forest on Friday the 13th. They have heard from many people that it is dangerous to go camping on Friday the 13th but they want to find out why. They all meet at Sam's house. As they are all about to leave, Sam's mum stops them. "Not so fast!" "You cannot go camping in the forest on your own, you will need a responsible adult to come with you!" "ooohhh" they all chant in unison. Sam thinks and says, "I know, Uncle Ed can come with us. "Hmmm, I don't trust Ed but maybe just this once he can come along." replied mum. "Thanks mum" said Sam lovingly. "Thanks Auntie Leena!" The rest of the six said altogether. When the reached the campsite, there smile had turned into a frown...
