Lindsay Rozynek! Lindsay Rozynek is a Chicago-based designer

building her career step by step. At age 22, she will be a Columbia College graduate with a Bachelors in Fine Arts of Fashion Design. Raised in Indiana, Rozynek decided to move to Chicago to pursue a career in fashion design at Columbia College.

Currently designing women’s ready to wear, Lindsay recently put an emphasis on knitwear. After studying bees’ nests, she decided that the concept could be achieved through knitting. She developed her idea by consistently visiting a local yarn store accompanied with images of various textures that portrayed nesting elements to become an expert on knitting. In her first project, Rozynek dove in and came out with the beginnings of what would be Knitorious Knits.

Knitorious Knits It’s all about nesting. Originally inspired by a bee’s nest and

caterpillar cocoon she found at the Field Museum in Chicago, Rozynek began her research by examining various types of nests. She studied their shape, form, colors, materials used, and their intricacy. Intrigued by the way birds build complex nests for their offspring, Rozynek discovered the brilliant work of meticulous architects underneath seemingly unorganized piles of “mess.” Her new insight led to her color choice, cocoon silhouettes, fabric layering, and eccentric knit stitches that developed into a must-have collection.

The silhouettes she constructed are variations of a cocoon shape. She achieves the look by pairing moldable wools with oversized and structured knit pieces that wrap around the body. These body-wrapping knit pieces are an assortment of knit and crochet stitches, braids, knots, and weaves from various yarn sizes and color. They are joined together creating thick, one-of-a-kind scarfs, midriff wraps, cowls, and outer shells.

Rozynek pairs deep necklines with chunky knit pieces as a common theme throughout the collection that gives the look sensibility. Amidst a predominantly neutral palette, random bursts of colors like bright red or royal blue are representational of the unique edge the collection has. They break up large blocks of solid colors for fluidity, entrancing the eye from head to toe.
