Exceptional musical ability is a gift. But even great talent does not flourish unaided. For it to develop successfully and to achieveits full artistic potential, it needs to be nurtured according to the highest standards.

Normal standards cannot be applied to exceptionally gifted musicians. That is why their education needs to be tailored to their needsand personality.

Meaningful support for a highly talented young musician is built on three pillars:

Teaching by world-famous artists

Support from a framework that encourages development regardless of economic background

Inspiration that comes from special encounters and outstanding artistic opportunities for young musicians which allow their artistic skills and personalities to develop and mature

Kronberg Academy is the first private institution in Europe to have established an exclusive study programme for young soloiststhat provides comprehensive, holistic support of this kind – Kronberg Academy Masters.

Young Kronberg Academy Masters soloists benefit from:

Regular tuition by renowned international musicians as well as exceptional performance opportunitiesA comprehensive, thorough grounding in music theory and a recognised academic qualificationInstruction in other areas that are also important for a successful career and life as a leading professional musician(career management, life skills, body training, health care, etc)

Kronberg Academy Masters is a demanding musical education programme. A joint venture by Kronberg Academy and the Universityfor Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt admits young soloists to a two-year Bachelor or a three-year Master course (KronbergAcademy Master). This may form the basis of an optional two-year course in Kronberg Academy Further Master Studies.

Flexible curricula are tailored to the young artists’ individual needs, enabling them to combine a busy concert schedule with studiesfor the internationally recognised Master of Music (M.Mus.).

Throughout their studies, the young soloists have the support and encouragement of a mentor. Meetings with experienced musi-cians and their contemporaries during Kronberg Academy’s projects are also a regular source of inspiration for the young musi-cians and part of the maturing process.

The regular platform of Kronberg Academy’s projects give different generations of musicians from around the globe an oppor-tunity to display their skills and are a source of mutual inspiration. The young soloists experience the benefits of making andstudying music together, classic tuition, competitions and, of course, special top-level concerts.

Festivals:Viola Festival, Cello Festival (every two years)Masterclasses:Violin Masterclasses, Cello Masterclasses, Kronberg Academy in Seoul (every two years)Chamber music project: Chamber Music Connects the World (every two years) Competitions: International Pablo Casals Cello Competition, Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann Berlin (every four years)

These projects also give Kronberg Academy a repeated opportunity to discover other specially gifted young musicians.

For the young soloists of Kronberg Academy Masters, taking part in Kronberg Academy’s projects is a vital, “practical” aspect oftheir training. They are able to get to know world-famous musicians in person and in depth, to learn directly from them and toperform with them in public – inspiration at its best!

The young soloists following the Kronberg Academy Masters course also have an obligation. Even while they are studying, theycontribute to society by giving benefit concerts for socially disadvantaged people and taking part in music projects for children.Later, as acknowledged leading musicians and alumni of Kronberg Academy, they place their skills at the service of the commu-nity and pass what they have learned on to the next generation of young artists.

Kronberg Academy places exceptionally gifted young musicians in an environment which promotes the healthy development oftheir artistic, intellectual and social skills.

Not only the renowned professors at Kronberg Academy Masters (Ana Chumachenco, Frans Helmerson, Gary Hoffman, NobukoImai and Christian Tetzlaff) but also visiting professors and the members of the Artistic Council of Kronberg Academy (YuriBashmet, Marta Casals Istomin and Gidon Kremer) take a close interest in the young soloists’ burgeoning artistic life and career.

World famous artists have established their foundations in Kronberg in order to ensure the long-term future of youngartists and music itself (e.g. through scholarships, by providing instruments or by arranging concert appearances):

Rostropovich Cello Foundation, Gidon Kremer Foundation,Yuri Bashmet Viola Foundation

Our musical heritage is one of our most treasured possessions.

We are deeply indebted to the musicians of the past, and what better way could there be of ensuring the future of music thanby providing consistent support for highly gifted young musicians. The musical elite of the future needs opportunities to developits potential and to enrich the lives of others.

In the past, personal commitment was the key to the success of Kronberg Academy. In the future, too, personal commitmentwill be crucial to the life of a private non-profit organisation such as Kronberg Academy. In this it is following the exampleof the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music and many other leading artistic educational establishments which beganas private initiatives.

Kronberg Academy is funded by private donors and the Kronberg Academy Foundation.

Idealism and a vision led to the establishment of Kronberg Academy in 1993.The goal was – and still is – to ensure thatthe best musicians have the best education.Today Kronberg Academy sees itself as providing support and encouragementfor these exceptionally gifted musicians as they make their way to a top international career.
