legal parking of heavy vehicles in theCBD at night. This will be curbed bymeans of fines and proof of the videofootage.KB&T represents various busines-

ses inKroonstad and aims to promoteinvestment and good, sound businessin town.Discussions on the Safe Town Pro-

ject have been chaired by executivemayorJihadMohapi anda teamofde-legates.“A joint decision was made to im-

plement projects which require littleorno financial implication,butwhichwill still have a positive impact. Bothparties feel that this will be a step inthe right direction and that current

projects can also be expanded. How-ever, both parties do realise that pro-blems cannot be resolved overnight,but by working together, a differencecan be made,” Cordier said.The planned CCTV camera system

will be provided to the Moqhaka Mu-nicipality by Corcomm Security for aperiod of threemonths to evaluate the

effectivity, especially during the co-ming festive season.“The video footage will be analyzed

by a handicapped person and infor-mation will be supplied to involvedparties and the South African PoliceService (SAPS) to aid law enforce-ment and any other actions,” Cordiersaid.

“The CCTV cameras are expectedtohelp theTrafficDepartmentandpo-lice keep a check on traffic violations,especially big trucks as they are notallowed to park in town at night.“They will also help to nab any act

FOR the past three years that Patri-cia Kopane, provincial leader of theDA, headed protest marches andwanted to hand over memorandumsto the executive mayor of Moqhaka,Jihad Mohapi, he did not face her andthe hunderds of protest marchers. Hepreferred to send a delegate to the le-gal marches. The same happened lastMonday at a DA march to protest forpoor service delivery.

“It is really a shame. So, it showsthe mayor does not care about the re-sidents of this community. Whateveryou are complaining about, hedoesn’t care.

“There are more important issuesas those of the community,” Kopanesaid.

Issues that the memorandum ad-dress are a lack of sanitation, the de-teriorating state of Kroonstad’s ro-ads and the municipality blatantlyignoring a request for access to re-cords and a motion of no confidencein the municipal manager, MncedisiMqwathi, which has been ignoredsince April.

In Marabastad 120 people share on-ly 1 unenclosed toilet. The residentshave to flush the toilet with a hosepi-pe, Kopane said.

“This is a clear violation of Section24 of the Bill of Rights,” she added.

ous water problem. The municipali-ty couldn’t give a damn if we live likepigs.

“We continuously report pro-

blems. The majority of the time thewater is gone over weekends. Howweird is that?” Du Preez asked.

sinessman, summarises the situati-on: “They are f*&&^#g us whereverthey can.”

The DA demands that Mqwathi besuspended, disciplinary action be ta-ken against him and he be held res-ponsible for the issues reported bythe DA.

They also demand that immediatesanitation relieve be provided to theresidents of Marabastad, that the 338vacant position be filled and that offi-cials accused and supected of misma-nagement be suspended, investiga-ted and/or fraudulent activities beinvestigated.

Immediate remedial action mustbe taken in Constantia to clean upover-flowing sewerage and the reha-bilitation of the affected areas, theDA requests.

“We want to tell the ANC in no un-certain terms here today that corrup-tion breeds poverty. Corruption robsthe poor, opposing corruption is thehighest calling of every citizen in thecountry,” the memorandum read.

CORNELL LOUBSER het talle eerbewyse en trofeë op die HoërskoolKroonstad se prysuitdeling ontvang. Sy het die senior sportvrou van diejaar­trofee vir haar swemprestasies op nasionale en internasionale vlakontvang. Sy het twee goue medaljes en drie silwermedaljes op die Suid­Afrikaanse swemkampioenskappe verower en is vir die nasionale spangekies wat aan die Olimpiese Spele vir Dowes in Bulgarye deelgeneemhet. Sy is die enigste leerling van die skool wat die sportman van diejaar­trofee vyf jaar agtereenvolgens gewen het. Sy het ook die KHS­wis­seltrofee vir uitstekende prestasie vir haar insluiting in die Suid­Afrikaan­se span na die Olimpiese Spele vir Dowes ontvang. Sy was een vanvier lede van dié span wat op die spele na ’n eindronde deurgedringhet. Cornell het ook dieWillemPeters­10/10­trofee ontvang vir ’n leerlingwat met deursettingsvermoë bo persoonlike omstandighede uitstyg.
