Kung Fu Therapy A message of Wisdom, Strength and Hope

Last week I watched a couple of really good Kung Fu movies By Zen Master Stephen Chow.

• Kung Fu Hustle • Shaolin Soccer • The God of Cookery

Most of his movies have the theme of applying Zen principles to any life situation. The movies and my efforts to try to help some friends in need inspired me to create this short 5 minute PowerPoint presentation. I am giving this labor of love away free of charge to the public. If it helps one person a tenth of how much it helped me to create it, I will be happy. The full PowerPoint presentation, slide show, pdf and video files are available to download from my web site. THE CONCEPTS OF ZEN

The Yin and Yang is a popular symbolthat you have probably seen before

It is a simplified representation meaning

Life in Balance

Page 4: Kung Fu Therapy

THE CONCEPTS OF ZEN

The Day cannot exist without the Night

Although the West side of a Mountain

may be in Shadow in The Morning

4

Page 5: Kung Fu Therapy

THE CONCEPTS OF ZEN

As the Afternoon Rolls Around Again

The Sunlight moves towards the West

5

Page 6: Kung Fu Therapy

THE CONCEPTS OF ZEN

The Cycles of Yin and Yang are

Intertwined and Never Ending

6

Page 7: Kung Fu Therapy

THE CONCEPTS OF ZEN

The Day and the Night are not

Good and Bad

You can not have one without the other

They exist together in

Perfect Harmony

and

Balance

7

Page 8: Kung Fu Therapy

THE CONCEPTS OF ZEN

Consider the flat surface of a

Calm Lake

This is not a normal situation

8

Page 9: Kung Fu Therapy

THE CONCEPTS OF ZEN

We must learn to accept the Inevitable Disruptions

that Will Pass through our lives

Ups and Downs are a more normal situation

THE CONCEPTS OF ZEN

With every ripple that passes there is a

A hill and a valley

An ebb and a flow

A Yin and a Yang

USING ZEN IN THERAPY

Unfortunately as Therapy Patients many of us

Are not dealing with mere ripples in a Lake

Sometimes we are faced with

Mountains and Cliffs

instead of hills and valleys

11

Page 12: Kung Fu Therapy

USING ZEN IN THERAPY

Sometimes it may Feel as if the

Ripples in our Lakes

Will gather Strength and Grow

Until they are

Tsunami Size Waves

12

USING ZEN IN THERAPY

When one is faced with a Big Wave of Emotions

It is time to learn how to Surf

Therapy is your Surfboard !

13

Page 14: Kung Fu Therapy

USING ZEN IN THERAPY

You may chose to try to ride the Wild Surf with out any Help

But with a little Floatation, the task is much Easier

Therapy teaches you to use the right Tools

When the Water gets Rough

14

Page 15: Kung Fu Therapy

USING ZEN IN THERAPY

When a Big Wave is headed straight for us

Our first instinct is to try to Get Over It

Any Experienced Surfer will tell you . . .

A More Effective Technique is to dive into the

Face of the Wave

Even though it may seem Scary

Facing Problems is the only way

To Put Them Behind You

15

Page 16: Kung Fu Therapy

USING ZEN IN THERAPY

The Experienced Surfer knows that the Water

In a Wave moves in a Circle

By diving into the Wave, one allows the

Natural Cyclical Forces to propel you through

And you will emerge on the other side relatively unharmed

BECOMING A KUNG FU MASTER

Nobody is claiming that you will achieve

Instant Karma

Nirvana does not happen Overnight

Nor does it exist in Pharmaceutical Form

17

Page 18: Kung Fu Therapy

BECOMING A KUNG FU MASTER

By Dedicating oneself to Years of Hard Work

And by Remaining Pure in Body and Spirit

Eventually you may find that when the circle

turns to the dark side

You can remember the tools you learned in Therapy

And ride out the Storms Ahead

BECOMING A KUNG FU MASTER

We have all experienced Good Times

As well as times when we feel that we

Are faced by the undefeatable forces of

TEAM EVIL

Sometimes it may seem

that our problems are coming at us

At a 1000 miles an Hour

That it when it is time for us to Remain Calm

To achieve Mindfulness

And to remember to use the Teachings of our

BECOMING A KUNG FU MASTER

When we are facing our problems

To outsiders it may appear that all hope is lost

We must remain confident that if we keep trying . . .

BECOMING A KUNG FU MASTER

It is possible to find a Solution to our problems

Only then can we be Victorious in Reducing

the Forces of Evil

Down to a size that we can Manage
