Various laboratory support duties including:
§ Analyzing science lab books to determine best set up for all science lab courses, creating and writing procedures for others and assisting science professors in labs.
§ Calculating how to make chemical stock solutions of various strengths (molarities) based on the formula weights of the reagents, or based on dilutions.
§ Standardizing acid-base reagents § Helped author the chemical hygiene plan for HCC along with science lab supervisors from all
other campuses and the safety officer. § Supervising part time lab techs and student assistants. § Developed excel program to track amounts and types of various chemical waste streams
produced in order to arrange for proper disposal with professional disposal company contractors. Wastes included chemical, biohazardous (specimen), and sharps.
§ Communicated and coordinated with professors and administrators. § Tracked budget and inventory, initiated buying/ordering process, anticipating lab needs in
advance to ensure all supplies available in a timely manner. § Planned work for self and others, § Assisted professors in science labs, § Assisted students in class and in independent study of lab materials. § Followed proper chain of command for requisitions and purchase orders. § Set up and set out labs, § Trouble shoot problems, § Maintained bacterial culture strains, inoculated media and used autoclave to produce sterile
media for microbiology labs and make wastes less hazardous. § Take down, clean up, and put away supplies and equipment. § Planned and reorganized the entire stock room and provide safe storage of all chemical
supplies and wastes following Flinn Scientific's chemical compatibility grouping. § Perform checks of safety equipment. § Arrange for maintenance and repairs of various kinds. § Member safety committee and on chemical hygiene committee.
