Keeping Pace with Technology

At Lab-Volt, we are committed to developing cost-effective engineering pro-grams that address today’s dynamic technological environment. We dedicate our research and development resources to providing new and better engi-neering equipment and curriculum.

Key to our success is our ability to anticipate the applications of new tech-nologies and develop flexible educational systems that allow us to address the basic and specialized needs of engineering education. Our engineering programs range in scope from those requiring only one trainer to more complex, equipment-rich, multi-year programs.

Lab-Volt Engineering Programs

Engineering encompasses a number of different potential careers. In order to meet current job forecasts, we would need to add 100,000 engineers per year for the next ten years, and yet fewer students are pursuing engineering education.

Three main reasons students reject engineering degrees are lack of prepara-tion, lack of exposure, and lack of interest. This is due, in great part, to the fact that educational preparation in engineering is lagging. Fortunately, US educators are working to change this trend and to expose students to engi-neering programs that grab their interest and foster a desire to pursue that interest through higher education.

In order for educators to be successful in this endeavor, they need proven and exciting engineering programs that will motivate their students.

At Lab-Volt Systems, we are committed to ongoing, innovative product development to meet the changing and challenging needs of students and

educators. Lab-Volt’s engineering programs are designed specifically for instructional purposes and comprise integrated systems of hands-on equipment, computer-based courseware, student manuals, instrumentation, and simulation software that are fully compatible electrically, mechanically, and educationally. They represent state-of-the-art technology based on current preferred pedagogical practice and are designed to either stand alone or be integrated with other Lab-Volt train-ing solutions.

Flexibility and Ongoing Support

To achieve our mission of ensuring success for both instructors and students, we design our systems to achieve unique instruc-tional goals within any budget. All Lab-Volt educational systems contain an essential element of flexibility. This enables us to struc-ture an engineering curriculum to suit individual school require-ments. Lab-Volt’s experienced staff of educators, instructional system designers, and engineers is available to assist instructors and administrators at any time – including preliminary planning, design of program content, equipment and software selection, and instructor training.

MICROCONTROLLER PROGRAMMING AND SYSTEM DESIGN

E-Blocks: Flowcode 4Flowcode 4 is one of the World’s most advanced graphical programming languages for microcontrollers. The great advantage of Flowcode is that it allows those with little experience to create complex electronic systems in minutes.

Flowcode’s graphical development interface allows students to construct a complete electronic system on-screen, develop a program based on standard flow charts, simulate the system, and then produce hex code for PICmicro® microcontrollers.

Flowcode includes drivers for a wide range of hardware elements – from simple switches and LEDs through more complex subsystems, like CAN bus and TCP/IP web modules. Flowcode is well-supported with a range of courses and applications, and is tightly integrated with the E-blocks range of hardware modules, which minimizes construction and development time.

This starter pack is designed to deliver a beginners’ course in microcontroller programming and system development. It can also be used for more advanced courses and for project work. Packs are offered at a discount to the sum of the parts. Packs are supplied with a free CD-ROM containing an introduction to microcontroller programming.

This E-blocks starter pack includes a selection of boards, Flowcode graphical programming software, and a beginners’ course in microcontroller programming.

The included CD-ROM contains a 50-hour course in C or assembly programming and includes simulations which aid understanding, tutorials, tests, and exercises.

The C for 16 course provides all of the resources for delivering a traditional 50-hour module in C programming. The emphasis here is on student-centered learning, with the CD-ROM providing a complete solution to teaching and learning C programming for the PICmicro.

This course includes a selection of E-blocks™ boards which can be used to form a large number of electronic systems for learning or for project work. Alternatively, a version 3 microcontroller development board can be used for PICmicro-related studies. The included CD-ROM contains a 50-hour course in C programming and includes simulations which aid understanding, tutorials, tests, and exercises.
