Latino Adolescent Mental Health and Adaptation (LAMHA) Study
North Carolina High Schools in the Sampling Frame
Latino Adolescent Mental Health Adaptation
What is the LAMHA Study?
The Latino Adolescent Migration, Health, and
Adaptation Project (LAMHA) is a mixed-method,
descriptive study of the mental health status and
needs of immigrant youth and their families.
The study seeks to contextualize mental health
symptoms by examining migration stories and
experiences as well as current community and
school variables. The data allow researchers to
examine mental health symptomatology among
Latino immigrant youth and their primary
caretakers in North Carolina, a
state where there has been a
tremendous increase in first-
generation immigrants.
The LAMHA project is the first
population-based study of
mental health among Latino
youth (ages 12-18) in a state with an emerging
Hispanic community. Data were collected
through a random sample and represent Latino
youth living in North Carolina.
How can I obtain the data?
LAMHA data will be available in a restricted-use
contractual dataset. It is a central concern of the
LAMHA project that the confidentiality of
participants be strictly protected. For this
reason, the distribution of data will be limited
and deductive disclosure concerns prevent full
access to all data sources.

the LAMHA project can be downloaded at: www.unc.edu/projects/LAMHA
