The kick-off event features a May Day maypole dance by children of the Waldorf School at 5pm, live Balinese inspired dancing from the LCC dance troupe at 5:30pm, and Bloom-esque Rose’ wine tastings. The Market’s stores are open until 8:30pm, many with special items. BLOOM continues through May. 2 6 PM | Jacobs Gallery (Hult Center) Jacobs Gallery showcases “The Macchia Six - Landscape Painters,” featuring Victoria Biedron (left), Jean Denis, Jaqueline Hamer Lukowski, Patti McNutt, Sally Schwader, and Jerry Ross, the Curator. The word “macchia” was commonly used by Italian artists in the 19th century to describe the sparkling quality of a drawing or painting. 3 6:30 PM | Cinema Pacific Fringe Festival Preview & UO Print Show (44 W Broadway) Catch a preview of video works by artists who will unveil installations and performances at Saturday night’s Cinema Pacific Fringe Festival at the JSMA. Media artist Violet Ray will display on one screen, while the other shows video by animator Joanna Priestley and Amanda Marie and X-O, along with a winning video from the Annual Fringe Festival Video Remix Competition. Also check out “Hard Truths: A Collaborative Printmaking Show” by the UO’s Advanced Printmaking class. 4 7 PM | UO Architecture Student Design-Build ‘Parklet’ (parking spot in front of 41 W Broadway) The American Institute of Architecture Students U of O chapter and the HOPES Conference hosted the Second Annual Student Design Competition. Participants submitted designs for a parklet—a built extension of the sidewalk that takes the place of a parking spot and provides a unique space for seating and plantings. The winning design, by second year architecture student Lacey Aley, was installed and is available for public use May 1st-7th. 5 7:30 PM | The Octagon (92 E Broadway) Local woodworker Tom S. Clark of Divine Light Altars shows beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces at the Octagon, a space belonging to the American Institute of Architecture. Working with his hands, Tom responds to and honors wood as a cellular material that grows towards the light, a story that parallels our own. Stop by to see what they have to offer. 5:30-8pm. 34 ABAE’s Make-A-Band Final Showcase (Park St Blocks) In March, hundreds of musicians performed in front of live audiences so that sponsors, fans, and producers could select musicians and create a band. These 10 bands have been practicing together and are now ready to perform from 2-10pm. 35 Make-A-Band Art Wall (Kesey Square) Swing by for a schedule of bands and to see and bid on music art pieces donated to the Make-A-Band Art Wall by local artists. All proceeds will go directly to Lane Arts Council. 5:30-8pm. 36 No Shame Eugene at the Atrium (99 W 10th Ave) The doors open at 7:30pm with live music. The show begins at 8pm with fifteen original, 5-minute acts. Come as a performer, or just watch! 37 Pacific University (40 E Broadway) Pacific University features a selection of work by students and teachers throughout Eugene, as well as by the multicultural literacy magazine Skipping Stones, the Community Alliance of Lane County, and Latino Roots Panels. There is also a One Year Anniversary Open House for the new Master of Social Work (MSW) program and a silent auction to benefit the MSW student scholarships for their trip to Costa Rica. Music: Llorona.
