Roll a Gingerbread ManSpeech and Language Lesson Plan Activities

Activities Goal Ideas for home:Read The Gingerbread Man story with your child. There are many versions of this delightful story that you can find either at the library or on You Tube. See Speech Corner for link.

Email Ms. Kim if you would like to play the Gingerbread Game with your child at home.

A. Label vocabulary:-Nouns: woman, man, cookie, oven, farmers, bear, fox ( nouns from story may vary depending on version), eyes, nose, mouth, hair buttons.-Verbs: run/ran, catch, shouted.

B. Pragmatic Language: This is a great opportunity to work on pragmatic/social language skills. Take turns rolling die and building the gingerbread man. Encourage your child to say “my turn/your turn”.

C. Receptive Language: Have them identify the various body parts on the Gingerbread Man when you either name it or provide clues ( i.e What does the Gingerbread Man see with?)

D. Expressive Language: Encourage your child to identify the number they rolled on the die and match it to the corresponding body part. Have them use completes sentences to say what they got. Model it for them, if needed. ( i.e Tell me: I got a six. I have hair. Etc)

Ask your child simple WH questions ( i.e. Who did the Gingerbread man run from?, Who caught the gingerbread man?’ Why were they trying to catch the Gingerbread Man? Etc)
