and received permission from the Vil-

permission was revoked by the Village
President, Dan Martin. Another resi-
dent asked about expanding the duties
of the Village Clerk, based on his cur-
rent salary. Candidates agreed that ad-
ditional services could be provided in-

The Autobahn to Lannon?
A common perception, particularly
among visitors is that Lannon is a
“Speed Trap”. Just attend one of the
Municipal Court sessions—it will re-
veal some interesting facts. Most
speed violations are in the 15—25
MPH over the speed limit. We are a
village with rural roads—not the
Autobahn or the freeway. Posted
speed limits of 25 to 45 are for our
safety, and the safety of our children.

“A LIGHT IN THE DARK”
The first Open Forum was held at the
Quarry Coffee and Café on Main Street
on March 9, 2010. The event, gave the
candidates running for a Village Trus-
tee position in the April elections, a
chance to state their views and field
questions from the public. An incum-
bent, Ron Dutcher, was joined by can-
didates Amy Martin, Daryl Fiene and
Howard Hadley. A lack of publicity for
the event led to a much smaller than
expected group of citizens and busi-
ness owners. Several current Trustees
also attended the forum. Reporters
from the Sussex Sun and Express News
were also present. After the candi-
dates introduced themselves and gave
their views, members of the public
asked several pointed questions. One
resident asked why virtually no one
knew about the meeting. Candidate
Hadley said that he did post several
notices but they were pulled down

pointed out that he couldn’t sell a ve-
hicle on his property without being
harassed by the Village Board. The
candidates indicated that village ordi-
nances should be applied equally to all
and that the ordinances need to be
updated periodically. Candidate Had-
ley noted that some of the laws were
on the books since 1938. Trustee
Newman, also at the forum, pointed
out that the last update was in 1998.
A member of the Lannon Business
Association asked what the candidates
would do for local businesses. Candi-
date Dutcher said that business rela-
tions in the past were less than
friendly but had improved. Candi-
date Hadley said that a personal visit
to local and nearby businesses would
improve and create new business
opportunities. A citizen asked a
question about use of the electronic
sign at village hall, since it was paid
for by the taxpayers. The general
consensus was this issue had to be
addressed by the Village Board. The
Shared fire and police services were
also a topic. Candidate Hadley said
that if he called 911, a quick re-
sponse was expected, wherever it
came from. Candidate Martin said ...Autobahn

signs give us the opportunity to slow down
when entering the village. One speeder was
clocked leaving Lannon at 109 MPH and was
stopped by the department’s Lt. Kevin Por-
ter. The Village Board receives complaints of
speeders on our roads on a regular basis, but
enforcement of the law is the key. If you
can’t slow down—see you in court!
