A LIGHT IN THE DARK VOLUME 2, ISSUE 1

A t the November regular village boardmeeting, the proposal to base sewer rates

on metered waterusage was introduced byTrustee Fiene. This changewould equalize the flatsewer rate that all are pay-ing, regardless of waterusage. It was also pro-posed that residents not

currently connected to the water system couldhave the option of having water meters installed(at their cost) on theirprivate wells. This couldresult in a lower orhigher sewer charge, based on their waterusage. Board members

indicated that it couldtake several billing peri-ods to have these pro-cedures instituted. Bas-ing sewer charges onactual water usage is a

step in the right direction and brings some equal-ity to the billing process. For those who use very

little water, this could result in significant savingseach quarter. It wont be advantageous for thosewho use large quantities of water each quarter.Trustee Fiene is to be commended on this positivestep in the right direction.
