“I WILL HUNT DOWN…”
MAR 1, 2011
Lannon Lantern AN UNOFFICIAL NEWSLETTER FOR LANNON, WISCONSIN
THE TM
“A LIGHT IN THE DARK” VOLUME 2, ISSUE 3
A meeting of the Parks, Recreation
and Beautification committee
was held in the Village Hall at 5:30 PM
on February 24, 2011. The meeting was
recorded on the official tape and also
on video. The meeting led by Trustee
Ron Dutcher, was attended by several
members of the public and by Trustee
Newman. Trustee Scott Balsiger, a
member of the committee, made a
comment about a piece of sporting
equipment ( possibly a T-Ball Tee?) that
was missing after one of the last games
of the season. His words were: “… and
I will hunt down the loser who took the one tee… second to last night one disappeared…
so what (expletive deleted) scum-suckin’ parent, loser, dirt bag scum, took it?” None of
the other Trustees present at the meeting said anything about Balsiger’s language or
attempted to mitigate his remarks. Is this Trustee Balsiger’s own version of “Verbal
Vomit*” as he so aptly put it during a Village Board Meeting on November 9th, 2010?
Do these comments, made at an open public meeting reflect the true nature of the
beast? You can decide for yourself. Trustee Balsiger is a candidate for re-election on
the April 5th Spring Election. You can watch a video clip of Trustee Balsiger’s comments
on the internet at YouTube at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2pSJTbZ-WQ. *At the No-
vember 2010 board meeting, he broke from the script of his Public Safety report and
lashed out at comments printed in the Lannon Lantern and the Sussex Sun newspaper,
calling them “Verbal Vomit”. A video clip of this meeting can also be found on YouTube
at www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiCxtP4-GC0. You can contact Trustee Balsiger at
(262) 502-0825 (Village Directory) . Watch out parents, the hunt is on! <

CARBON MONOXIDE (C0) have a detector in your home is if you

New Richmond News. Sunday, Feb-
ruary 27, 2011. A new law requiring all
residential homes to install carbon mon-
oxide detectors have area fire chiefs smil-
ing. Starting Tuesday, all single- and two-
family homes are required to install the
detectors, which
act like smoke de-
tectors by sensing
carbon monoxide
gas and sounding
an alarm. The law
applies to both ex-
isting homes and homes under construc-
tion. Jim VanderWyst, New Richmond
Fire and Rescue chief, said the new law is
probably a good thing for most resi-
dences. “I would hope that people are
smart enough to have a detector if they
have a gas furnace or gas appliances,” he
said. Carbon monoxide is tasteless and
odorless, he said. “It’s really dangerous
because you have no way of knowing its
in your home. Just because your furnace
is in the basement ... it’s going to be in
your entire home,” he said. “That’s why
we recommend putting a detector where
you spend most of your time, whether
that’s a living room, dining room, bed-
room or kitchen. The only reason to not
O n the weekend of February 19th &
20th, Trustee Newman joined a
Facebook discussion as “Nitrohelper
Newman”. The exchanges covered a
range of subjects including the water /
sewer system and the Lannon Fire De-
partment. Trustee (Please see Page 3)

Newman’s comments were primarily directed at Amy Martin and Howard Hadley, both
Lannon residents. Facebook is a public website. Trustee Newman’s comments during
the interchange appeared to be insulting to both residents. Amy was accused of, in
Newman’s words, “whining on Facebook as a SFB Drama Queen that doesn't under-
stand the facts about the future of the Lannon Fire Department and her limited impact
on it.” When Howard Hadley asked Newman to start respecting his constituents*, he
said, “I am not using any office to deride & insult you, I doing it as a resident that knows
Lannon was better before you arrived and will again be better when your (sic) gone.”
Howard noted that you wouldn’t find the President of the US engaging in such behav-
ior. Newman’s response: “Howard I don't consider you or Amy a constituent of mine,
you are opponents... Thanks for comparing me to the President of the US, If I was, then
my staff members would have to listen to your false statements… I don't want a person
that goes around scaring the elderly on a fixed income while trying to make themselves
appear important as a constituent … I don't plan on trying to react to your false and
uninformed statements to the Village Board… In fact it would better for the Village if
we did the opposite of your suggestions... If you think some things are not to your liking
in Lannon, maybe some other spot in the US needs a whiner/quitter in the local coffee
shop.” What Trustee Newman does not seem to understand is that he is a public offi-
cial 24-hours a day, not just when it is convenient. Like it or not, by definition (see be-
low), all residents of Lannon are his constituents. He does NOT get to pick and choose.
He may not agree with opposing views, but it is his obligation to acknowledge opposing
viewpoints without sarcasm and treat all constituents with respect. In our opinion,
Trustee Newman is not a leader. He wants to be one in the upcoming election as a
candidate for Village President. If he was a leader, he would have stepped forward and
stopped the “verbal vomit” of his fellow Trustee Scott Balsiger at the meeting that was
discussed on Page 1 of this issue. You do have other choices in this election. They are:
Write-In Candidates; (from Left) For President & Trustee, Dave Nagler, and for Trus-
tees, Jeanne Crosby, Diane Daily and Amy Martin. <
