7/23/2019 Las Posadas Book English Version http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/las-posadas-book-english-version 1/44  Welcome, Welcome, Welcome Jesus The San Martin de Porres Music Department would like to welcome you to our celebration of Las Posadas. “Las Posadas” starts Christmas on the 16th of December with processions of children and adults journeying from house to house with some dressed as characters from the nativity, Mary, Joseph, angels, or shepherds. The pilgrims ask for hospitality at every home that they call on but at first they will receive playful excuses of rejection “No Room at the Inn” as they are turned away. Nevertheless, the travelers keep going until doors are opened wide, and the whole procession is let in. They are welcomed with food, drink and a celebration, of hospitality. The “Las Posadas” journey gives us space to reflect on the world in which we live; those who journey to find work, to make a better life and who are far away from friends and family. The turning away brings home what it means to be treated harshly, to be rejected or to be completely ignored. However, the end of the journey is about being welcomed in, about generous hospitality, about being a specia  guest. Let us seek to reflect to others, generosity and hospitality, as we welcome the birth of the Christ Child, and celebrate in faith, that our God is indeed with us to bring love and peace to the entire world.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome JesusThe San Martin de Porres Music Department would like towelcome you to our celebration of Las Posadas.

“Las Posadas” starts Christmas on the 16th of December withprocessions of children and adults journeying from house to housewith some dressed as characters from the nativity, Mary, Joseph,

angels, or shepherds. The pilgrims ask for hospitality at every homethat they call on but at first they will receive playful excuses ofrejection “No Room at the Inn” as they are turned away.Nevertheless, the travelers keep going until doors are opened wide, and the whole procession is let in. They are welcomed with food,

drink and a celebration, of hospitality. The “Las Posadas” journey gives us space to reflect on the world inwhich we live; those who journey to find work, to make a better lifeand who are far away from friends and family. The turning awaybrings home what it means to be treated harshly, to be rejected or tobe completely ignored. However, the end of the journey is aboutbeing welcomed in, about generous hospitality, about being a specia guest.

Let us seek to reflect to others, generosity and hospitality, as wewelcome the birth of the Christ Child, and celebrate in faith, that ourGod is indeed with us to bring love and peace to the entire world.

Xpect and anticipate, what appropriate verbs for thisbeautiful season of Advent. As followers of Christ, we setaside this time to prepare for Christmas but this holy

season can be so much more.

Instead of plunging into Christmas early, advent holds us back

and emphasizes preparation and expectant waiting for thecoming of the “Prince of Peace”  to this world.

Advent looks back to the arrival of Jesus as an infant more than2000 years ago, to His coming into our Hearts and Lives today, and Forward to his expected coming at the end of time in judgment and glory.

Tonight, Dear Brothers and sisters, we celebrate Advent by joining Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem. Let usready the way of the Lord by preparing our hearts and ourhomes to receive Him.  Please join us in singing “Ready theWay”

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the VirginMary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,  was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven, and is seatedat the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living andthe dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The 1st Joyful MysteryThe Annunciation

And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favorwith God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and

you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and be called the Son of the Most High…”~Luke 1:31-32~

hildren are a gift from God. A completely mysterious gift, but a giftnonetheless. The mystery of the Annunciation shows me how muchGod loves human life. My salvation did not begin with a celestial light

show or trumpeted announcement throughout the heavens. It began with apregnancy. The Word truly became flesh and entered the world the way I didMy God chose to become a helpless child in the arms of His Mother.

Unless I become like a little child I cannotenter the kingdom. To be child-like is to be fullof awe and wonder at everything God does.Small children are amazed at simple thingslike music, balloons, and bugs. I too need tolook at life with that kind of awe.

Children are a gift from God because they canteach me how God wants me to live, depending solely on Him and looking with

wonder at all He does for me. Like the angelGabriel children can be messengers fromGod. ~http://realliferosary.com/ ~

The 2nd Joyful MysteryThe Visitation

“And why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lordshould come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greetingcame to my ears, the babe in my womb danced for joy.” - Luke

1:43-44

often wonder whether the Visitation was for Mary to visitElizabeth or for Jesus to visit John. Watching children playcan be a delightful experience. Their unchecked enthusiasm

is beautiful in itself. How often adults subdue their love and zealfor life and each other out of pride.

I often fear what people may say if they see me get really excitedabout anything. If I truly love God this sort of pride and fearshould not exist.

Not only did John leap unashamedly in his mother's womb, hismother was equally exuberant upon seeing her cousin. It is timethat I become like a little child and truly allow myself to get

excited and rejoice in others. I need to meet and greet myneighbors with child-like abandonment and leap with joy in myheart like John, cry out blessings like Elizabeth, and proclaim thegreatness of God like Mary. ~http://realliferosary.com/ ~

The 3rd Joyful MysteryThe Nativity

…and going into the house they saw the child with Mary hismother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening

their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincenseand myrrh. - Matthew 2:11

aving many things or objects does not make peoplehappy. In today’s society the one-with-the-most-toys- wins mentality prevails. Jesus was born into poverty but

He did not want because He had the love of His Mother and theexample and protection of His adoptive father. Children do notneed things to make them happy. They do not need toys or

computer games. They need parents who will love, teach, andprotect them. No amount of money or number of goods will makeany child happy and holy. Only love, sacrifice, good example, andprotection can ensure that. Jesus was given gold, frankincense, and myrrh as symbolic gifts. Like many parents, Mary andJoseph probably saw them as nothing more than Christmaspresents to store in the basement or give away in a few yearsParents need to stop giving their children so many gifts and startgiving them God to you in Bethlehem. ~http://realliferosary.com/ ~

The 4th Joyful MysteryThe Presentation in the Temple

hildren are a tremendous responsibility. Not only do theyneed to be fed, taught, cared for and protected, they alsoneed to brought up in the Faith and given back to God.

During the Baptismal Rite children are given a white gownsymbolic of the newness and holiness of their soul now cleansedof original sin. Parents and godparents for their part, promise toraise them according to the teachings of the Church. They also

promise to help them return to God with their souls as clean asthey are at the moment of Baptism. Mary offered Jesus back toGod without reservation. Her gift of her Son enabled His gift ofHimself to me. How often do I try to control my children insteadof leading them? How often do I put my own fears and anxietieson them? Lord, help me to offer my children to You withoutreservation and no matter the cost even if a sword must pierce my

heart as well. http://realliferosary.com/

The 5th Joyful MysteryThe Finding of Jesus in the Temple

…and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. After three days they found him in the temple,

sitting among the teachers, listening to them, and asking themquestions.

-Luke 2:45-46-

Losing my keys or wallet is one thing, but losing a child iscompletely different. Any parent who has simply lost sight of hisor her child for a few unexpected moments knows the heart wrenching feelings that accompany that loss. Many parents havelost their children to accidents, crimes, or suicides. Many othersfeel the same loss with children, who have run away, become

addicted, or left the Faith. Mary felt the agony of loss when sherealized Jesus wasn't to be found. She felt the agony of loss, butshe was not overcome by it. Her hope remained strong. Lord, help me to always hold on to hope. Help me to trust you even when I feel that I have lost you or you have left me. Give hope tothose parents who are experiencing a difficult time with theirchildren, especially those experiencing loss. Help them to turn to

Your Mother for comfort. Mother of Hope, Pray for us.~http://realliferosary.com/  ~
