TSF believes that an engagement with languages outside the traditional classroom environment is key to a lifelong love of language learning. Our work aims to inspire and entertain with productions exploiting the company’s gift for imaginative and visually-driven storytelling.

This leaflet describes a number of projects TSF has been involved with and shows we can bring into your school.

Marie Curie and the Discovery of RadiumParticipatory day-long drama, French and science project for Year 8 students exploring the life and work of Marie Curie. Pupils rotate around a series of activities, using French, which include working in the science lab and creating scenes from Marie Curie’s life with props and costumes.

The day enabled pupils to use this material in a realistic setting and in a variety of subjects that they can find quite challenging. It has become one of their memorable moments at school.MargaretTurner,HexhamMiddleSchool

Features in Living Languages: An Integrated Approach to Teaching Foreign Languages in Secondary Schools by Catherine Watts and Clare Forder, published by Routledge.

The French RevolutionStudents in Years 7 and 8 create their own play in French, performing scenes from the French Revolution.

LinkedUp AwardIn 2010, TSF received a LinkedUp Award to collaborate with North East teachers and pupils to create a toolkit for using drama in language teaching. The toolkit can be downloaded from www.linksintolanguages.ac.uk/resources

TSF produces work which tours to theatres and arts centres and may also be hosted by schools with full theatre facilities. For our younger audiences, aged 6-12, theatre productions are based on folktales or well known stories from around the world, such as Le Moulin Magique and Aladin et la Lampe Enchantée, and presented in simple language. For our older audiences aged 15+, productions are usually adaptations of novels or plays by well-known authors and are given that special TSF twist. An unmissable experience for GCSE and A-Level students!

In all our shows, the dramatic style is physical and imaginative, resulting in a performance that is both engaging and highly entertaining. The productions offer a rare and authentic opportunity to hear and see theatre performed by an international cast in its original language. An absolute joy for all language learners and teachers!
