Learning To Wait On God by Pastor Fee Soliven
Psalm 62:5-8Sunday Morning January 12, 2014
Psalm 62:5-85 My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. 6 He
only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in Him at all times, you
people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.
Isaiah 64:4 4 For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by
the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who
waits for Him.
Psalm 139:1-61 O LORD, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my
thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are
acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. 5 You have hedged me
behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too
wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.
1 Peter 3:12-1512 For the eyes of the LORD are on the
righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil." 13 And
who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14
But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "And do not be afraid of their threats,
nor be troubled."
1. To Ready the Circumstances
Psalm 106:13-1513 They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel, 14 But
lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tested God in the desert. 15 And He gave them their request, But sent
leanness into their soul.
2. To Purify our Motives
Philippians 4:5-75 Let your gentleness be known to all
men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ
Jesus.
3. To Protect us From Making Mistakes
Matthew 4:1-71 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward
He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You
are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” 5 Then the
devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6
and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down.
For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you
dash your foot against a stone.’” 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again,
‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”
4. To make the Greatest Impact for Our Lives
1. Manipulate The Situation
2. Quit Praying
3. Wait and Watch God Work in Our Behalf
Proverbs 3:5-65 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways
acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
1. Trust God’s best only comes in His way and His time. We won’t always understand or appreciate what He’s doing, but we
must trust Him and obey His directions.
2. Humility Waiting upon the Lord also requires a humble spirit that acknowledges that
His way is better than ours.
3. Patience God is not an errand boy who follows
our instructions. On the contrary, we’re the ones who must wait for Him to
provide exactly what He’s planned at just the right moment. Although the wait may be long, His best is always worth
the delay.
4. Courage
Isaiah 41:1010 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not
dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I
will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'
1. The temptation to Follow Our Schedule
We must keep our minds focused on what God desires, not on what we
want.
2. The Temptation to Yield to the Pressure of Others
People may be quick to offer advice, but we must follow God’s will, not
theirs.
3. The Temptation to Be Afraid
We may wonder whether the Lord’s way could work for us. There is no
reason to fear because He protects and defends His children when they walk in
His will.
What if we Fail to Wait for God’s Timing?
1. We Step out of the Will of God
Altering or adjusting the Lord’s clear directions is an act of rebellion and will
result in His loving discipline.
2. We Delay His Blessings
When we go our own way, God doesn’t bless our disobedience.
3. We Bring Pain and Suffering Upon Ourselves
Trying to adjust the Lord’s plan by stepping ahead or doing what we deem
reasonable never improves the situation, but instead, causes more
problems.
4. We Experience Confusion
When we don’t follow God’s will, we wonder what’s happening in our lives.
5. We Cause other People to Suffer
A decision to sidestep the Lord’s way affects others because they share in
the consequences of our disobedience.
6. We Subject Ourselves to Financial Difficulties
If we don’t wait for the Lord to provide in His way and time, we may make unwise decisions we can’t afford.
1. God will Show His Goodness to Us
Lamentations 3:25-2625 The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him. 26
It is good that one should hope and wait quietly For the salvation of the
LORD.
2. He Will Answer Our Prayers Psalm 40:1-3
1 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. 2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. 3 He has put a new song in my mouth--Praise to our God; Many will see it and
fear, And will trust in the LORD.
3. We’ll See the Fulfillment of our Faith when We Obey Him
Isaiah 49:2323 Kings and queens will serve you and care for all your needs. They will bow to the earth before you and lick the dust
from your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord. Those who trust in me
will never be put to shame.”
4. He Will Enable us Conquer Our Struggles
Psalm 37:3434 Wait on the LORD, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off,
you shall see it.
5. We’ll Experience God’s Peace if We Walk in His Will
Philippians 4:4-74 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I
will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at
hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,
with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace
of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts
and minds through Christ Jesus.
