Red Lion Blue Bell Inn

Situated at the old A6 crossroads on the outskirts of the village, the Red Lion

was completely refurbished in 2007 in a modern and comfortable style. Large

dining area and outside there is a pleasant beer garden with tables for al-fresco

dining. Full menu is available all day which is supplemented by a contemporary

British carvery weekday lunchtimes and evenings and all day Saturday and

Sunday. Two guest ales are available at all times and we have received Cask

Marque accreditation for beer quality.

A traditional village pub located in a delightful position opposite the village

green. An open fire provides a cosy atmosphere in the winter, and the beer

garden is the perfect place to relax in the summer. Real ales include Timothy

Taylor Landlord and Adnams bitter, with a range of draught lagers, ciders wines

and spirits also available. The bar has a pool table, juke box and dart boards,

with a petanque piste outside. A skittle alley can be hired for private parties and

other functions. Walking groups can be catered for. Food is not available

Monday to Saturday but home-cooked roast lunches are available on Sundays.

Rothley centres around two Greens – the Cross Green and the Town Green. There is an ancient Saxon cross is the church graveyard in the village. The main

shopping area is in Woodgate, where there is a selection of gift shops.

Birstall is a growing area but still retains a village feel. The Grand Union Canal runs through the bottom end of the village and nearby is the extensive

Watermead County Park and lakes.

The Old Plough is the oldest pub in the village, dating back to 1789. At one time,

part of the building was used as the village morgue, and was later an air-raid

shelter during the Second World War. Changes have happened along the way,

and the pub has just been completely refurbished inside and out, but you can be

sure of a good old fashioned welcome. Real ales available include Black Sheep

Bitter and a changing guest beer. Winner of Punch/Heineken 2009/10 area

award for its cellar together with a brewery award for Beer Care & Cellar

Management. Reasonably priced meals using local produce are served until

8pm, with lunchtime specials and Lite Bites. Family friendly and just a short walk

from Watermead Park.

The Royal Oak Woodman's Stroke

The Royal Oak has been a part of the Everards brewery estate since 1920. A

family pub, the Royal Oak is renowned locally for excellent traditional English

pub food. The pub is located in the centre of Rothley and benefits from a beer

garden, separate courtyard and also a dedicated function and conference room.

Ales served are Everards Tiger, Beacon and Original, plus Beacon Smooth,

Carling, Fosters, Guinness, Kronenbourg and Strongbow cider.

The Woodman's Stroke is tucked away in the old part of Rothley village. A pub

which dates back to the 17th Century, "Woodies" (as it is locally known) is a

traditional free house with a thatched roof, stone floors and beamed ceilings.

Rugby and cricket memorabilia adorn the walls. Outside is a paved terrace full

of shrubs and flowers and tables with heated parasols, and a beautiful large

landscaped garden which continues down to the Rothley Brook. There is a

dovecote with resident doves and an aviary of budgies and cockatiels.

Traditional ales and a changing guest beer are served together with a varied

wine list. Food is available Monday to Friday lunchtimes.

Mountsorrel is located by the River Soar. A well known feature of the village is the Buttercross Market, dating from 1793.

The Lindens The Waterside Inn

Located in the heart of Mountsorrel, the Lindens has traded as an Everards pub

since 1954. It has a large and welcoming bar and restaurant area making it the

ideal destination for a spot of lunch. The pub offers freshly home-made food in

a warm and cosy surrounding. Beers served are Everards Tiger, Beacon, Original

and seasonal specials, Smooth Mild, Carling, Fosters, Guinness, Kronenbourg

and Strongbow cider.

Only 2 minutes walk from the Buttermarket bus stop, this 200 year old

traditional pub stands next to Mountsorrel lock on the River Soar. The pub

consists of a bar and large lounge both overlooking the lock. The garden and

patio also adjoin the river. Extensive food menu is served throughout the pub

and outside during fine weather. A selection of five cask ales includes Everards

Tiger and Beacon plus seasonal specials and guest beers, as well as three

draught lagers, thirty five malt whiskies and ten country wines. Lunch served

until 14.00 and evening meals until 20.30. Sunday Roasts available 12.00–15.00.

The Swan Inn

A Grade II listed building dating back to 1688, which was originally two terraced

cottages. With roaring log fires in winter, the Swan Inn combines the hospitality

of the traditional inn with real ales, fine wines, spirits, soft drinks and superb

cuisine that can be enjoyed inside or out in the garden. Regular ales are Black

Sheep, Ruddles County, Theakston XB and Old Peculiar which are supplemented

by a regularly changing guest ale. Voted CAMRA Best Village Pub North

Leicestershire 2007. Hot and cold meals are available lunchtimes and evenings

Monday-Saturday, with an a-la-carte menu served, and a traditional 3 course

roast lunch on Sundays.

Royal Oak Blacksmiths Arms

The Royal Oak is a small traditional village inn situated on Quorn Cross in the

centre of the village. One of the few remaining freehouses in the area, with at

least three real ales as well as a good selection of wines and lagers. The building

was originally three terraced cottages and has been an inn for around 160 years,

retaining many original features including beamed ceilings and an open log

fire. There is also a sheltered garden at the back. It is owned by the Dimblebee

family, who have run inns in the area for the last 60 years. Real ales available

are Timothy Taylor Landlord, Adnams Broadside and a guest beer.

Attractive village pub, part of which was built in the 17th century. There is a bar

with beamed ceiling and coal fire together with a small front lounge and large

rear lounge. Attractive beer garden and well appointed covered smoking

area. Has received Cask Marque accreditation for beer quality and appeared in

the Good Beer Guide. Ales available are Banks’s Bitter, Marston’s Pedigree and a

changing guest beer.

Quorn is noted for its green spaces. It is a popular and desirable area of the county and home to Quorn and Woodhouse Railway Station on the Great

The White Horse Inn White Hart Inn

An Everards pub since 1922, The White Horse is a great pub for the cask ale

enthusiast boasting a wide selection of ales throughout the year. The pub is

located in the picturesque village of Quorn in the backdrop of Charnwood

Forest. Offering excellent dining facilities with freshly home cooked food which

can also be enjoyed in the spacious beer garden. Beers available are Everards

Beacon & Tiger, Admans Bitter, guest ales, plus Carling, Kronenbourg, Guinness,

Strongbow and Bulmers cider.

Retaining much of its olde-worlde charm with beamed ceilings and roaring open

fires, this 15th Century pub and fine eatery offers good value traditional

fayre, serving a menu of traditional English favourites. Every Thursday night

diners can enjoy steak night with two succulent steaks costing just £10. The

popular Sunday lunch is also not to be missed. Five real ales – Taylor Landlord,

Charles Wells Bombardier, Greene King IPA & Abbot Ale and a weekly changing

guest ale plus a good variety of wines, spirits, lagers and soft drinks. Quiz night

Quorndon Fox The Manor House

Large coaching inn dating back to 1740, which was originally called The Double

Necked Swan. The Quorndon Fox has been refurbished in a traditional style with

open fires and comfortable seating and dinning areas. Part of the Vintage Inns

group means a wide food menu is available all day. Offers a range of guest ales

with favourites including Batemans XXXB, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Everards

Tiger, plus lagers, spirits and an extensive wine list.

A 17th Century building tastefully refurbished in 2005 with a stylish

contemporary feel. One of Leicestershire’s best gastro pubs which has won

many awards for food, use of local produce and pub experience. Freshly

prepared meals are complemented by a range of real ales, lagers, wines and

spirits. A lunchtime and small bites menu is also available. A recent addition to

the CAMRA Good Beer Guide which has also received Cask Marque accreditation

and BBPA awards for beer quality. Draught Bass and Timothy Taylor Landlord

The Moon & Bell The Orange Tree

A Wetherspoon's pub opened in 1999 in a former a tax office building in

Loughborough town centre. Ales available include Ruddles Bitter, Abbot Ale,

Marston's Pedigree and Nottingham Rock Mild, which are complimented by 4

changing local guest ales. A Good Beer Guide 2010 entry and local CAMRA Town

Real Ale Pub of the Year 2008 and Mild Pub of the Year 2009. Regular beer

festivals are held and real cider is always available. Free Wi-Fi access. Full menu

served all day to 10pm, 7 days a week.

The Orange Tree in Loughborough is somewhat of an institution and a favourite

with local art students. A warm, unpretentious welcome awaits you, along with

a full menu of fine gastro-pub fayre to complement a choice of real ales, lagers,

wines and spirits. Fuller's London Pride is the regular ale together with guest

ales (recent favourites include; Spitfire, Adnams Broadside, Greene King IPA and

The Amber Rooms The Swan in the Rushes

Contemporary Wetherspoon/Lloyds No.1 bar in the Rushes retail development

which opened in 2003. The area was once occupied by Loughborough’s

Electricity Works. Electricity takes its name from the Greek Word “Electron”

meaning Amber, which gives the pub its name. Ruddles Bitter, Abbott Ale and a

changing range of guest ales are stocked. Full menu available all day 10pm, 7

days a week.

Two comfortable bars, a family room, and a function room lead out on to a

drinking terrace. A range of up to 10 cask real ales including regularly changing

guest ales plus traditional cider, draught & bottled continental beers and a good

selection of single malt whisky. Home-cooked food using local produce and

organic meat. Voted No.3 in the Morning Advertiser’s Top 20 UK Pubs 2009 and

The Albion Inn Paget Arms

Traditional canal-side pub dating back to the opening of the Loughborough

Canal in the late 18th Century. Has a bar, lounge and a darts room plus an

outside patio. A long standing entry in the Good Beer Guide, The Albion stocks a

range of changing guest beers together with regulars of Sharp’s Doom Bar and

Wicked Hathern Doble’s Dog Mild.

An Everards pub which is operated by the Steamin’ Billy Brewing Company via a

joint venture. A delightful olde-worlde pub decorated throughout with

traditional pub memorabilia. Six real ales are available with regulars including

The Maltings

Located on the outskirts of Loughborough, the Maltings is situated within

walking distance of Loughborough University campus and only a short bus

journey from the centre of Loughbrough. Great food offers including a Sunday

and midweek carvery, an all-you-can eat themed buffet, and an extensive menu

with freshly prepared daily specials. The conservatory makes a pleasant and

relaxing addition. Beers available are Everards Tiger, Beacon, Original and

The Tap & Mallet has been in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide since it reopened 17

years ago. The Landlord is also the Chairman of the Loughborough and North

Leicestershire Branch of CAMRA, which makes a good pint of traditional ale a

certainty. Permanent beers on sale are Oakham JHB, Abbeydale Moonshine,

Marston's Burton Best and Jennings Mild. These are accompanied by a range of

guest ales, frequently from local micro-breweries. There is a large garden at the

rear with an aviary containing parrots and rabbit hutches which are popular

with children. The pub also has a pool table and dart board. No cooked meals

are available but there are filled rolls and snacks.

The Crown Black Swan

An Everards pub since 1980, The Crown Inn is situated in the centre of Shepshed

conveniently along Market Place. The pub hosts regular events including live

music and offers a good selection beers and ales. With its traditional English pub

appeal, The Crown is a great place to enjoy that after work pint. Beers served

are Everards Tiger, Beacon & Original plus seasonal & guest ales, Carling,

Fosters, Guinness, Kronenbourg, and Strongbow cider.

Bulls Head George & Dragon

Recently refurbished to give comfy and relaxed surroundings, this pub

restaurant is part of Crown Carveries. A great value traditional carvery is served

all day, alongside cask ales of Everards Tiger and Greene King IPA, together with

other beers, lagers, wines and spirits. A large patio area is ideal for al-fresco

dining and drinking in fine weather. A walk can be taken to see the nearby ruins

of Grace Dieu Priory through the rear of the car park.

Newly refurbished pub and dining rooms create a friendly, quality, affordable

drinking and dining experience in relaxed surroundings. A full menu of

traditional meals is available including a morning breakfast service, lunchtime

light-bites and evening specials. Marston’s Pedigree, Greene King Abbott Ale

and Old Speckled Hen are the real ales available. The pub regularly holds

Shepshed was a centre for the wool trade, where merchants congregated to buy wool from the local area. Now referred to as a town, Shepshed once

claimed to be Britain’s largest village.

Thringstone village lies on the fringes of Charnwood Forest. Close by are the ruins of Grace Dieu Priory, which was founded in 1240.

Three Horseshoes The Monkey Walk

Nicknamed "Polly's" after a former landlady, the Three Horseshoes is listed on

CAMRA's National Inventory of historic pubs. With bench seating, quarry tiled

floor, a piano and pre-war fittings, it is really like going back in time. There isn't

even a till, with change being kept in glasses behind the bar. Real ales available

are Draught Bass and Marston's Pedigree, always on good form. A friendly local

and well worth a visit.

Previously a branch of Lloyds Bank which had opened in 1901, JD Wetherspoon

acquired the building in 2002. A minimum of five real ales are on sale which

includes a great range of local and regional guest beers. The full Wetherspoon

menu is available until 22.00 daily, with a range of value for money meals

including breakfasts and daily “club” deals. The unusual name comes from the

once fashionable evening promenade in Coalville, when young people would

parade along Belvoir Road as far as the Co-op clock, sited opposite the pub.
