We will have two worship services on Ash Wednesday, one upstairs in the Sanctuary at noon; the other downstairs in Asbury Hall at 6:30. You are invited and encouraged to attend one or both. Traditionally Christians “give up” something during Lent. We, like Christ, deny ourselves. One of the greatest declarations of Christ’s denial is found in Philippians 2: We encounter that Cross three days bfore Easter on what is called Good Friday, the day Christ died. The term “Good Friday” was once a conundrum for me. How can the death of Christ on Friday be good? How can the agony and loneliness of a cross on Friday in any way be good? What’s good about that? I was sitting around a campfire one night with my extended family (we were canoeing Talking Rock Creek in N. Georgia). It was Spring Break and we were all out of school and Easter was approaching. As the night wore on and the campfire talk turned to theology, we began discussing Easter and Good Friday. “How,” I asked, as we huddled around the fire, “can we call this day Good Friday? It wasn’t good; it was bad! The Son of God was dying on a cross. The hope of all mankind was being crucified! It is not good! We shouldn’t call it Good Friday; we should call it Bad Friday!” Everyone sat there for a moment and then my brother said, “No, it should be called Good Friday. It was a bad Friday for Jesus, yes. It was a bad Friday for God, yes. But it was a good Friday for everyone else!” Yes, it was! In fact, it was the greatest Friday in the history of the world! Because of that Friday we have forgiveness of sins. Because of that Friday we have salvation of our souls. Because of that Friday we have hope. Because of that Friday there is an Easter. Because of that Friday there is eternal life, not only for Christ, but for all who trust in Him. What a Friday! Thank God for Lent and Good Friday. Easter is coming! Lent and Good Friday by: Rev. Christ Jesus, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. Lent to Easter The time between Ash Wednesday and Easter is a time to pause, reflect and pray. Through small group studies and special worship services, the Lenten season will provide you with many ways to prepare for Easter and the celebration of Christ’s resurrection. Noonday worship on Wednesdays returns beginning on March 8th. Each week, leading up to Holy Week you can come hear guest speakers deliver the message during this short worship service which all center around the theme of “tables.” Following worship you are invited to join others at the table for a light meal. Palm Sunday (April 9th) marks the beginning of Holy Week, a time when we remember the days leading up to Christ’s crucifixion. Each day from April 10th to April 15th, guest speakers will bring you the message during special Noonday worship services. (A light meal will be served afterward). In addition there will be a Maundy Thursday worship service and a Good Friday service, both at 7:00 pm.

Thank You Over the past four years Sunday nights at the Lunde household have been reserved for phone calls for Welcome Table. It truly takes a village or in our case, a congregation, to provide 15-17 desserts each week in support of this ministry. I cannot begin to thank my old and new friends for their dedication and service. However, it is time for me to take a break and pass the baton (call list). Ibby Davis and Dianna Faircloth have kindly accepted this responsibility. They will be looking for additional volunteers to make or buy a dessert to share as this ministry continues to grow. Your kindness and willingness to serve have touched me and I am so blessed. Thank you for your continued support.
