This is 1. Why let’s go? The young people of South Africa are the future of our country. There are 10,4 million between the ages of 15 and 24 years of age. Over ½ million young people leave Grade 12. Every year. We should invest in them and in their dreams. For most of them though their dreams remain only dreams when they wake up to their daily realities. They live in an exciting world of dazzling technology and immense exposure to potential success. A world made up of glowing promises made by prominent leaders. But many are ill prepared due to poor education and crumbling family structures. Many are surrounded by alcohol and drug abuse, societies rife with violence and corruption. These societies have a disregard for discipline and the rule of law. Sadly, too many remain trapped in the cycle of poverty. The world that adults are creating for them is not attractive. They will have to be part of creating their own dreams. Those young people who enter the world of work will face a significantly different place to what they were prepared for. The ways that they will have to compete with others will be tough. Intense. Relationships and networks are the sources of success. Demands are unrelenting and the pace is furious. Any sense of entitlement or social financial protection rapidly evaporates and without a personal resilience to cope, a new risk of hopelessness can emerge in their minds. So what should be done? Young people should be helped to discover and build their whole and authentic selves; courageous and ready to take personal responsibility. They should be prepared and equipped with the personal skills as the sources of their success at work and in life. This is what let’s go! does with young people. We develop their ability to take risk, to be pro-active, to have the courage to be innovative and creative, to take ownership of their own development. They create a strong personal brand inspired by self-confidence, individualism and a desire for greatness. They get the knowledge about themselves to make the right choices.

1. Why let’s go?The young people of South Africa are the future of our country.

They change their mind-sets to build a better future for themselves and their communities.

A big challenge for South African organisations is to participate (meaning)fully in developing a sustainable and equitable society. Corporate Social Investment is a mechanism through which organisations can and should contribute to the development of sustainable communities. They can build ‘social capital’ and help young people to discover their future. let’s go! helps organisations to invest with integrity in the self-development of young South Africans.

2. Who is Let’s Go! Development?Let’s Go! Development (Pty) Ltd is a private company and a level 4 B-BBEE contributor. The key to our success lies in the fact that we develop young people in collaboration with organisations and other stakeholders.

The let’s go! self-development (SD) programme is an original, creative and unique self-development experience created for and endorsed by young people and as well as by several organisations.

Within the first six months of introducing the programme over 500 young people from rural and urban communities attended it. The impact on them as evidenced by their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and validated the purpose of the programme.

The let’s go! SD programme takes a young person, irrespective of social class, gender, racial or religious profile, on a journey of self-discovery and self-development. Through engaging them with interactivepresentations, teaching, learning and personal activities they develop new skills to master self-leadership and define their individuality. let’s go! is for all young people and not only for youth leaders. 5. Making it happenThe funding client/corporate sponsor provides the money in the form of sponsorships towards the delivery of the programme to the participant. The let’s go! SD programme connects these two stakeholders.

The funding client can sponsor programmes within its organisation, a selected community, school, college or a university of its choice.

let’s go! provides the training material, two qualified facilitators to present the programme, and manages all the programme logistics.

6. How is let’s go! delivered? The participant gets a comprehensive learning file, filled with activities supported by an interactive website and social media. The classroom facilitation is done at facilities chosen and funded by the sponsor and in close proximity to the community from which the delegates are recruited.

The ideal size of a group is 30 - 40 participants. The target market is grade 11 and 12 learners, university students and young people ready to enter the world of work, as well as the young unemployed who could be prepared for employment.
