Level 3 English: Language and literacy for English teaching What are the course aims? Develop candidates’ own literacy and language skills to Level 3 Build on the skill sets required to deliver, embed and assess FS English at L1 and 2 Expand candidates’ English subject knowledge. Who is it suitable for? Vocational tutors who wish to improve their own language and literacy skills, and English subject knowledge Teachers who wish to develop their skills in embedding English in their vocational teaching Trainers and Assessors delivering and assessing English Functional Skills in Apprenticeship and Traineeship programmes People wishing to undertake accredited skills development to progress on to teaching qualification courses. How is the course assessed? Candidates will explore English knowledge and skills and produce a written or spoken assignment in each of the following areas: 1. Writing skills for literacy and language teaching 2. Reading: Responding to texts with a critical analysis of structure and language 3. Speaking and listening skills for literacy and language teaching There are three assignments related to the content above. Assessment tasks include essays, research, analysis of texts and presentations. There are no observations of teaching practice. The majority of the assessment tasks will be completed outside the classroom. How is the course taught? “What made this course so inspiring was the amazing teaching and high expectations – it really motivated us!” 2014-15 course feedback A wide range of teaching methods are used to meet your learning requirements, including group activities, workshops and sessions in assignment writing, online tutorial, quizzes etc. There are two course offers: 1. Classroom based: 60 hours’ classroom contact - 2½ hr sessions, 24 week course. Mondays 5.00pm-7.30pm 2. Distance (Blended) learning: 30 hours classroom content in six 5-hour sessions. 30 hours online learning. What does it lead to? This subject specialist CPD will enhance your employment opportunities.
