Students who complete the AA or AS are

guaranteed junior status at a state-

supported university

ASSOCIATE IN ARTSThe Associate in Arts (AA) degree is a 60-hour degree program designed for students who plan to transfer to a college or university and complete a Bachelor of Arts degree. This degree leads students to develop a strong foundation in English, fine arts/humanities, social/behavioral sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences. The coursework within the AA meets most freshman and sophomore requirements at the baccalaureate level.

ASSOCIATE IN ENGINEERINGThe 60-hour Associate of Engineering (AE) program is designed to prepare students to transfer into one of the five ABET accredited engineering programs in North Carolina. Within the AE, coursework includes upper level mathematics and general education credits, and an Intro to Engineering course (EGR 150) which helps students understand and choose from the multiple specialties within engineering. Students completing the AE are encouraged to double major with an AS.

ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCEThe Associate in Science (AS) degree is a 60-hour degree program designed for students who plan to transfer to a college or university and complete a Bachelor of Science degree. The AS degree not only emphasizes natural science and mathematics, but also provides students with a solid foundation in English, fine arts/humanities, and social/behavioral science, as well as includes enough elective hours to allow students to further explore areas of interest. The coursework within the AS meets most freshman and sophomore requirements at the baccalaureate level.

ASSOCIATE IN FINE ARTSCraven CC offers two Fine Arts degrees, the Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts (AFA-Visual) and Associate in Fine Arts in Music (AFA-Music). The Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree is a 65-hour program designed for students intending to transfer to a college or university to complete a Bachelor in Arts degree, a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree, or a Bachelor in Music degree. Twenty-eight semester hours are dedicated to a general education core, but 36 hours are remaining for students to take a deep dive into their study of music or art.

The AFA program is also perfect for those wanting a comprehensive study of music or art without pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

GLOBAL & CULTURAL INITIATIVESCraven Community College recognizes that our world is one of global connections and honors that fact with outreach programs across the state and the world. Diversity of cultural expression is central to a liberal arts education, and we embrace the opportunity to help students recognize the interdependency of our global partners. Our Study Abroad initiative allows students to study in other parts of the world to foster a richer, more vibrant global perspective. Study Abroad sites from recent years include Croatia, Ireland, Scotland, and Costa Rica.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCECraven Community College’s high standards in the classroom and dedicated faculty ensure a university-quality education for your first and second year of college. Extracurricular opportunities—such as the renowned chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, the college’s Honors Program, and the National Science Foundation Scholars in Engineering & Science—guarantee students strong interdisciplinary connections. Eligibility for these organizations and programs is available to students who complete 12 curriculum hours and earn a 3.5 GPA or better.

How Far Do YouWant to Go?

THE ARTS AT CRAVEN CCAt Craven CC, we value the talents of emerging musicians and artists who participate in music and visual arts classes. Encore! is Craven Community College’s singing student ambassadors who perform throughout the community and studio art students often participate in the college’s annual art show. In this juried show, the winning piece is awarded the President’s Art Award and becomes part of the college’s permanent art collection. The collection is housed across campus and each piece is labeled to include the artists’ name and title of work.

WANT TO GET INVOLVED?Students who maintain a 3.5 (B+) grade point average are eligible for membership in the college’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international two-year honor society. Some students in these programs have also joined Encore!, the college’s singing ambassadors, the Student Government Association, or the Hurst Student Ambassadors program, which provides scholarships to the college’s top students in exchange for their service.

STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL?Through the Career and College Promise program, high school students can earn eligible credits that will move them closer to an associate degree. Students should contact their local high school counselors and the Career and College Promise Coordinator at Craven to find out more.
