Mission— to support their member libraries of all types in providing quality library services.

The IHLS service area covers 28,141 square miles.

There are 521 member libraries: 30 Academic, 227 Public, 235 School and 29 Special.

Delivery vans travel over 1 million miles each year to distribute approxi-mately 8 million items to patrons.

The Library Crawl is organized and presented by the participating

libraries of the Illinois Heartland Library System.

The 1st Library Crawl was started by the Bethalto Public Library

District to encourage library patrons to explore the resources in

many other library buildings that are available to request and

checkout with a library card.

In 2019 there were 28 participating locations.

In 2021, for our 3rd Annual Library Crawl, there are 85 locations!

We hope you have an enjoyable time discovering new libraries

Welcome to the 3rd Annual IHLS Library Crawl. We hope you

have a fun time visiting new libraries and discovering what won-

derful resources they each have in their collections.

Once you have this passport you are ready to begin. Simply pick

out five or more libraries to visit. You have three weeks for your

travels.

Be sure to bring a mask with you as Illinois currently requires

that masks be worn in all indoor public settings.

Remember that many libraries are closed on Columbus Day,

Monday, October 11, 2021. Call your destinations to check be-

fore planning your travels for that day.

Whenever you visit a new library be sure to go to their main cir-

culation desk and ask for a stamp in your passport.
