    In Response t o Judge King’s R uling

For the past few months, our family waited for Judge King’s ruling. He said it wouldbe released soon. If we have learned one thing over these almost twenty-two years, the courts de nition of !soon" is di#erent than the !soon" the families anticipate, and pray for. $fter months of testimony, reviewing statements and proposedevidence, and additional sta# to assist the Judge, the wait concluded yesterday. %eappreciate Judge King’s time and dedication to Heidi’s &idnapping case, decadeslater.

'ears transitioned into decades and Heidi’s memory was &ept alive on theanniversary of her abduction and her birthday until July ()*+. ne summer

afternoon, my parents and I, and Heidi’s family, friends, and community were thrustbac& into the same intensity endured decades prior. %e went from a hopeful waitingto a hope- lled waiting and !the" call. he call never came and the roller coaster ofemotions and impact of Heidi’s &idnapping wore on us with a rawness we thoughtwe were numb to, but we weren’t. In the matter of a moment, the raw and heartbrea&ing pain returned.

July ()*+ to arch ()*/...one thing remained the same...Heidi was, and is, stillmissing.

%e are than&ful for this time of waiting is over. %e aren’t na0ve and understand

court hearings and motions never stop, but neither do our hopes, prayers, anddedication to &eep Heidi’s memory in the forefront until she is found. %e appreciatethe 1udge ta&ing time to be diligent and meticulous in his response, showing bothhis character and desire to uphold the law.

he 1ourney in having a missing loved one never ends. he hope and prayers fortheir return are 1ust as constant. y greatest sorrow in this recent announcement, while it con rms the right man is in 1ail, my om wasn’t able to hear the news andhave this peace when she too& her last breath. om wanted to &now where heryoungest daughter was but a bro&en heart and cancer too& her before she couldthan& the sheri#’s and 2$’s o3ce personally, or to &now where her Heidi is.

he swego 4ounty 5heri#’s 2epartment and 2istrict $ttorney’s o3ces &ept myparents and I informed. hey tried to stay ahead of the media but in today’stechnological age, and their desire to read and review things in their entirety beforecalling us, sometimes I saw it on witter or heard it on the radio before we, and therest of our family could be noti ed.

here have been positives in this aspect of the 1ourney too. Heidi’s &idnapping caseis thought of more often and people new to our community and surrounding areaslearned about the missing eighteen year-old from 6ew Haven, 6ew 'or& that mayhave never &nown such a tragic case occurred in our small town. he newerinvestigators and deputies gained valuable e7perience in handling and investigating

a missing person’s case. 8eople are tal&ing about Heidi and her disappearanceagain. %hile this is di3cult at times, one of these conversations might be the onereveals the missing pu99le piece to nding Heidi.

n the :ip side, this recent 1ourney wore my om out. 5ome may not &now shepassed away on Heidi’s birthday this past 5eptember, after a short battle with 5tage+ etastasi9ed 4ancer. %hile we would have preferred this month to be spent withonly family, the investigators and 2$ still needed to &eep in contact due toadditional statements made during this time. I am grateful for law enforcement’scompassion and concern e7pressed each time they called, apologi9ing for botheringme, yet dedicated to Heidi’s case. hey too hoped to answer my parents’ ;uestion,!%here’s Heidi
