MeasuresEstimate, compare and measure lengths, weights and capacities, choosing and using standard units (m, cm, kg, litre) and suitable measuring instruments
Read the numbered divisions on a scale, and interpret the divisions between them (e.g. on a scale from 0 to 25 with intervals of 1 shown but only the divisions 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 numbered);
Use a ruler to draw and measure lines to the nearest centimetre
Use units of time (seconds, minutes, hours, days) and know the relationships between them; read the time to the quarter hour; identify time intervals, including those thatcross the hour.

Identify criteria for sorting, suggest uses for the materials from which objects are made.
Recognise that some materials are naturally occurring and some are not.
Name some naturally occuring materials.
Distinguish between the material and the object made from it.
Use terms squash, bend, twist stretch.
Identify some materials that can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching, some That can easily be changed back and some that can not be easily changed.
Describe some changes that take place when some materials are heated, clay, bread, potatoes
Explain that the new materials made are different and often useful.
Expalin that water can be changed to ice by cooling.
Describe what happens to some materials when they are cooled ans say whether it was what they expected.
State that common materials eg chocolate, butter, fat become harder when they are cooled but softer when they are warmer again and relate this to what they suggested would happen.
Describe that when water is heated, it boils and turns into steam, but that steam can be turned back into water by cooling.
